X200 ( 1999-2002) again - tape error
Hi all,
I don't post often here, but this forum has been incredibly helpful in fixing many things in my 3.0,'99 S-type.
Slowly I'm getting all the bits of the car working again . The only remaining issue I have is the radio : it's the usual 9000 system, with casette player. While "premium" is not written on its front, the label on the back of the head unit identifies it as such.
Aftrr getting it to turn on again, I discovered no cassette will be read by the player, nor original old cassettes, nor the Bluetooth adapter I bought (yes: I already know all about the fixes to the auto reverse issues). The casette will go in stay in for the time the player tries to read it and will then spit it out,, displaying a generic "tape error".
As I thought the problem was with the head unit I bought another one in full working condition. I get the same error.
What's funny is that for some 10 minutes when it's cold, the casette player would work.
Anyone has bene facing this issue? How did you fix it?thanks

Just bought a 2000 S-Type 4.0 with the same cassette error. Was also thinking about replacing the head unit but given that you already tried that, I’m now hesitant. Have you managed to find any solutions? Happy to be a part of the S-Type family now, such a beautiful car!
Nope I did not really: I ended up buying this https://www.incarconnections.co.uk/j...x001-ipod.html
and mounting it in the CD-charger socket to have bluetooth support. Works like a charm, despite being a quite analog solution. (as it turns out it also works with stereos that don't have the "premium" marking).
The quality difference in this case is given by the kind of codec supported by the Bluetooth dongle you'll plug into the aux exit.
Back to the cassette: you could try buying a cheap head cleaner. As far as I understand that system should be able to restore the reader to its functionality. I never got around to it as I always wondered how the cassette cleaner won't auto-eject like a normal cassette would.
