Seems logical but the bias to D is mechanical and not right - there's no feedback from the ECU and that makes me suspect the shifter mechanism.

I fried a Toyota ECU with one.
The modern electronic 'tenders' pose no risk.

Some people have got similar errors from plugging in a duff OBD reader so maybe an odd code sequence coming from the fob would upset things. Keep us informed.
