the mirror is glued to a plastic base which snaps into ball pivots. Obviously it came off one of the pivots, unless the pivot arm broke.

try finding the side that is loose and then getting it...

I went to a salvage yard and pulled the punp from a 1986 XJ just for the heck of it. That was the third pump and the one that is still quiet. $6.00 it cost me.
