The AutoZone dude might actually be correct if the PCM has not been updated as per TSBs S303-09 and/or S303-S139am.
It does sound like the throttle assy/circuit has a serious fault.

Trim removal

It's best to pry it upwards from along the bottom edge. This will help to avoid cracking it. Once you get it started at either end it will come away easily in a sort of rolling upwards motion.
