Check the valve clearance on the zero compressor cylinder. It possible the car overheated and dropped a valve seat. Listening to the video it sounds similar to my XJR with dropped valve seats....

A long shot, but try a hard reset, then turn the ignition on for 30 sec. then off again before doing anything else. Supposedly to allow ECU to complete communication with other modules.

Just to close this off: I went out and replaced the existing with this thing, and I can confirm that all that was needed, was to pull the end off, rotate, pop it back in, and it behaves as expected....
