Your problem sounds exactly what happened to my van with same symptoms. Diagnosis: "Orifice tube is partially obstructed". They replaced the orifice tube and has been working fine since.

To answer your question, it depends on the charger. Some are manual and some are automatic. IMHO, charge it to 80% on full charge. Last 20% trickle charge to 100%.
