When I was diagnosing a parasitic draw on my 2000 Coupe, I tried it armed and unarmed (unlocked), the car went to sleep in both modes. So I don't think leaving it unlocked is itself a problem.

The only time I saw fuel in the TB was when some electronic component on the TB went bad, but that threw a code.

First thing I thought of was an intake leak. There's lots of plastic parts that can crack over time and the heat they are exposed to. The crack may be hard to see.

Other posts on here about replacing fuses that look fine fixing a dead radio led me to try replacing perfectly good looking fuses.

And it worked!

Check out how the bad ones looked.

CD player stopped loading CD's but radio still worked. You could hear it trying to load a CD. Drove car for weeks this way.

I took the player out and cleaned/lubed everything. Worked one more...

If you wanted a less ambitious fix, I fixed leaks in two common spots, the large Norma connectors for $5. Posted in a recent topic.

In my case, this was two leaks, in the Norma connectors on either side of the throttle body. The passenger side drips in the exhaust, the other side makes a puddle under the reservoir.

I'd just replace the pump. Failure risks overheating the engine which is probable death of same.

The pump is very easy to replace on this car. Also look for broken vanes on the one coming out.
