I have found that most seeps are from the oil filter and not the drain plug. As you said get the car in the air and take a look.

Who knows maybe you do need to change the drain plug O-ring??...

Why don't you remove the passenger side wheel well liner and use the AUX battery post in there? This is a Lincoln LS but it's the same as the Jaguar.

Another vote for SilGlyde. Every year I treat all my rubber gaskets. All 4 doors, trunk seal and moon roof seal.

Really helps keep things quiet and it seems to protect the rubber too.
