Can CAI trigger the check engine light ?
Hi guys,
Since installing the Eventuri cold air intake on my 2017 F Type R coupe, I've put about 275 miles on the clock. I had my local Jaguar dealer do the install and the senior veteran tech did the work on my car. There was no problem until Saturday night. I took the car out and drive her hard at times depending on the road conditions. During the night, the check engine light came on. The engine does not feel like it's off or running rough. I've had good quality cold air intakes installed into my previous cars in the past and never once had an issue, no check engine lights triggered on my previous BMW cars. Obviously I need to bring the car back to the dealer to find out the cause of engine light symbol coming on the dashboard. I realize you guys are not technicians but you guys are very educated and have techincal experience with the F Type car. Anyone have any idea of what may have caused the check engine light to be triggered. I thought maybe it's the MAF and the connection is not good but the tech told me all assembly went smoothly without any issues. Aside from my CAI , what might cause the check engine light to turn on. I have 1800 miles on the clock.
Your thoughts please. Thank you

That's great ...
Two years without any issues. Is your car the F Type of different model vehicle. I've had DINAN cold air intakes in my previous BMW cars, never had a problem.
Can anyone speculate what might be going on please.
Thanks.

If you want some idea what the problem is before you take it to the dealer, take the car to a local auto parts franchise (Checker, Advance, PepBoys, etc.) and have them pull the code (they'll do it for free), and report back to us. One of us can sort you out. I know for a fact that an open intake (no filter) will throw a code.

Okay guys ....
I will take it to Advance Auto parts near my house by Saturday. Too busy during the week.
The CAI absolutely has " dry " non oiled filters, so there zero change of the MAF getting fouled up from the oiled filter.
Thanks guys !

CEL="check engine" light. The thing that lit up on your dashboard. The ODB port is just under the front of the dash on the left side of the steering wheel. There are no panels or hatches to goes through. It's out in the open. Just look up under the dash between the door and steering wheel and you'll see it.

One of the most useful tools you can get for your F-Type is a code reader which plugs into the OBD2 port.
They range from $10 Chinese knock-offs right up to the multi thousand dollar factory SDD system.
I use an iCarsoft i930, works great and does more than just read codes, see here:

At a minimum, you'll be paying dealership repair rates.

Mikey ...
I originally brought the car to the dealer to have the CAI installed. Labor rate is $155.00 hr.
The way i see it, if the MAF connection became loose somehow, it should be reconnected at no charge. If it something different, the car warrenty should cover the issue.
Am i wrong with my thinking ?

Until you get the code pulled, everything is speculative. Your CEL can be anything. It can be the o2 sensors, your gas cap not being tight, etc.
If you go to the dealer and it turns out that your CEL is related to the intake system, its components and any other systems that monitor the air intake then you'll have to return your car to stock in order for any warranty work related to the intake system to be authorised unless your dealer doesn't disclose that the car is modified.
Did your dealer state whether or not they warrantied their work for installing the intake?

Shame on me ...
Because i didn't think to ask this question, warranty for the work they did. It was such a straight forward process to do the install, i didn't pose the question to my service advisor. I do have a very good relationship with him so, i hope he will do the right thing. He isn't a jerk or unreasonable person .
ill find out soon enough and report back to this thread.
