Default 2014 XK Navigation Update?

Hello,

Most of the "navigation DVD update" threads on the forum deal with '07-era and other era cars, which discuss both the DVD update and firmware issues.

But, I can't find anything about updating a 2014 navigation database, and I'd like to assume that a 2014 doesn't have firmware updates needed at this time.

I went to Jaguar | Home | HERE > "XK" > "2014" > and it says, "At this time, the map you are currently using is the latest version available today."

Do I need to check my eyes? : ) Am I reading this right? Navigation data has not been updated by NAVTEQ in three years? Here in Milwaukee, WI, the county has reworked most major highway arteries, such that all previous "take ramp left" is now a merge-right, and vice-versa. Very little of the current roads match the database.

I'm just wondering if there's a solution? This would probably also make a good "sticky" thread.

If you've checked your DVD, and its the 2014 version, then yeah, you've got the 'latest and greatest' available.

The only option right now, and probably forever, is Google Maps. The old X100 XK8/Rs from 1997-2002 could only get a 2001 disk, even though the MY 2003-2006 still had Nav, although from a different supplier. That's why White XKR decided to make a Triple-Gauge to replace the Nav Screen in those year cars.

Yeah, looks like the 2017 map updates are available for only a few Jags
XJ (2010-2015)
XF (2012-2015)
F-TYPE (2014-2016)

Grrrrr

It has now been 15 minths since I have used the built in nav system. I use Google maps on my Galaxy 6 Edge which I have mounted with a magnetic mount that attaches to the dash through the CD slot. Accurate, always up to the minute information including traffic and alternative routes and listens to me to get the destination.

Ralphwg,

Can you post the information for your magnetic mount, or a picture of this setup? I'm having a hard time imagining how it works/connects through the CD player. If you have a link to the device (on Amazon or similar) that would be helpful. Thank you in advance!

It doesn't connect through the CD player but fits in the slot so no magnets are involved. Here is an example on ebay. Easy to use but makes access to touch screen controls problematic.

Thanks for all the answers. Too bad they can't update the one software thing in this world that I'd actually LIKE to have updated... I couldn't care less about another Windows update, another Mac update, another Android update, another iOS update...

I agree with stevem; most people say they don't like the XK Nav, but it works really well (barring major road changes) and I particularly like the lane-choice-turn instructions and arrows between the Speedo and Tac. Plus, chick's voice is hot.

I like when the arrow is going through an open field (really just a newer road). It gets quite upset.

Haven't experienced that yet. Does the British babe start cursing "Damn Yanks, not only do they drive on the wrong side of the road, they can't even stay on the friggin road!"?

No, but that would be humorous. Mostly it insists you return to the route.

I have yet to use the nav system to navigate. Too easy/quick/accurate on Google Maps... I can use the nav I I ever want to visit the previous owners' home, sister's home, doctor, or work though

I have the wizgear in the XKR and one of the push ones in the RX350

Would it be possible to retrofit a new nav system (currently offered by Jaguar) into the space of the old? Otherwise, it might be more cost effective to get an LTE equipped iPad or Android tablet and have a semi-permanent mount for it.

Not much would match up electronically. Someone in here, can't remember who right now, tried swapping in I think an XF unit and it worked.... somewhat. Some of the features worked, but not all. Plus it was a bunch of work to get THAT far. Dude knows a LOT more than I, and he gave up not long ago as it never progressed from that point.
I'm sure someone will post exactly what-all, but that's the gist of it.
