Exclamation MASSIVE Failure. Loss of Power. Error Messages

Hey guys,
some of you may remember me posting about some very weird error messages my car gave me (
) about a month ago.
San Diego Jaguar spent about a week inspecting my car and found nothing. Seriously.

However, yesterday things have gotten a lot worse. As I was driving (passing someone, actually), all of a sudden I have lost power, the engine was idling with no power coming through the wheels. Luckily I was able to safely pull over, wait and restart the car. At that point I took this video

As I drove on, carefully and was about to exit the freeway, I lost the power AGAIN. This time I took a more detailed video:

Both times when I stopped and tried putting the transmission in park, the car made a pretty nasty noise and jerked a bit. Waiting for the tow truck to take the car to the dealership now.

It's a 2016 F Type R with about 12400 miles on it. 0 mods. Any thoughts? Suggestions? Definitely feels like a lemon. And a dangerous one...

Not that you have to, but it would have been really interesting if you could have removed the Positive feed from the battery for ten or so minutes to see if that cleared the issues.

20 Bucks says it's something really daft like a dodgy Earth or the main brain needs a re-boot.

Or a dodgy battery. The dealer should test the battery as one of the first items.

Yep; no idea but these cars are extremely sensitive to bad/low battery voltage.

Paolo's Auto Service in San Marcos, CA has the diagnostic equipment for the newer Jags. Jaguar Carlsbad sends cars to him to check if they cannot diagnose. Paolo is a great guy and very fair. You could call and talk to him about the issue and get his opinion on it. Of course if he does the work, you would be charged the shops hourly rate vs warranty work with JLR.

This is why I like warranties. Glad you're safe. That needs to go to the dealer and stay there until the car is no longer a safety issue. The videos should help. Escalate to JLR headquarters if they try to send it back to you without a proper disgnosis and solution. There should be plenty of trouble codes. I have a reader that reads all JLR systems... unfortunately I am on the east coast.

+5 on the battery/grounding/loose terminal possibilities.

UPDATE:
The car was towed to Jaguar San Diego. Jeremy, the service manager said that there are no active CEL codes, but promised to get to the bottom of this. Not holding my breath, since last time they could not figure out anything.
However, a glitch that simply required a restart (the September 5th accident) and complete loss of power on the freeway are two very different things.
I'll obviously insist they DO figure out what has been causing this, since it's a safety issue, but I'll have my lawyer (who helped me sue VW USA back in the day) on speed dial...

So, are you - in fact - the Jaguar equivalent of your User Name?

If the MIL is not on, then there may be pending DTCs, which the dealership should be able to read.

Hopefully they are going to begin their diagnosis with a test of the battery.

Having a solicitor on 'speed dial' is an interesting concept!

Make sure they check the ground. Some owners have reported paint on that contact.

UPDATE:
Got the car back yesterday. Jaguar San Diego said it was a loose battery connection and the only CEL fault they found was for "low voltage".
Car drives fine, no issues so far. I do feel somewhat uneasy though, so will keep an eye for anything suspicious.

So the MIL is not on and you are no longer receiving error messages?

Did they by any remote chance check the condition and charge level of the battery? 'Low voltage' would indicate a failing battery. As stated before, the battery MUST have a minimum of 12.5 volts across the terminals with the ignition off for the vehicle to perform correctly.

About an hour ago the same thing happened again: loss of power on the freeway. I am towing it to Jaguar San Diego yet again tomorrow morning. This is a hot mess...

I'd get a cheap code reader. Check engine light on = there are codes. Just for your own information.

Remind them that you are getting close to being able to lemon the car.

I spoke to the service advisor, Jeremy about that. They don't seem to mind too much, considering how severe, dangerous and frankly weird the problems are.

Having said that, it'll be tough to let go of the Shaguar. I'd want to get another F Type R for sure.
