Default Hood Vents

Driving down the Ventura Freeway yesterday afternoon, my driver's side hood vent decided to go airborne and take a flight across the freeway. I called the two Jaguar salvage yards near me, neither of which had one or a pair, and then I called Chris at Mina. He told me he could get me a pair by today, and sure enough I picked up a set that has two screws and a plate that goes across the ventin two places to prevent this from happening again. You use a nut to tighten the plates down. This is the second time something like this has happened to me. I was impressed with Chris' quick delivery. He also informed me he is working on some air intake systems that should increase performance and sound and wants to use my car as the prototype. I'll be taking it back to him week after next.

Hey Ted, just a thought, put a bit of blue Loctite on the threads to make sure the fasteners don't back off and come loose. It might prevent a repeat on the highway with the new vents.

That's awesome that Chris came through like that. You should nicely point out to him that he would probably get a lot more business from the forums here if he was a bit more timely with communication and delivery.

Well the screws holding the vents broke off of the epoxy that held them in place within an hour, and the driver's side flew off again but fortunately I was on a street and was able to retrieve it. I'm having them painted again tonight or tomorrow and then will figure out a more permanent way of attaching them.

The OEM vents are what flew off in the first place! And yesterday, when the replacement vent flew off I was driving about 20mph coming to a stop light.

You should just trade your XKR for my XK. I don't have hood vents to worry about.

Did you get your Pantera back yet?

Would VHB tape work? I've used it in applications like this and it ain't coming off by something as simple are hurricane force winds.

And that's when you rear-ended the guy ahead of you?

Try Gorilla Glue. Apparently, it works for everything.

FYI, the Optional Jaguar Accessory Hood Vents have much improved latching mechanisms and a smart "tongue" that keeps them from flying off even if they could pop up, see 1st pic.

Cheers,

Dave

I really like the looks of the Optional Jaguar Hood Vents that 10XKR showed us in this thread, but I can't seem to find them anywhere. Can anyone direct me to where I can find them?

A couple of additional questions:
Do they fit the 2008 XKR?
Are the bezel and the insert separate items? I kind of like the chrome bezel, but I might consider keeping the Celestial Black bezels with the chrome on black Supercharged insert for my Portfolio.
.
Thanks,

Dave

Now that I look more closely at my originals, it looks like I have to replace the whole assy.

Just the results of a quick Google search. Use the P/N to find a better price.

Yes fits all years X150 and basically all the Jags of the same era that were Supercharged.

Comes as a Kit only and there are 2 parts in the kit, the outer plastic ring comes "Primered Ready to Paint" typically Body Color and the center section is ready to go. There is only one with Chrome Rings (to my knowledge), I sent my plastic rings off and had them Chrome Plated, FWIW it cost as much as the kit, and darn well worth it:-) The pics don't do them justice.

Cheers,

Dave

Got any close-ups of the Vents?

Thanks,
