Easy.
Dexterity helps....as does agility when working under the dash.
Small cotter in and sliding retainer at the throttle pedal end. Funny little clip at the engine end. Small retainer cup where cable pass thru the foot well.
Don't inadvertently let the new cable flop on top of the battery while you're routing it into to position. It might contact both battery posts. Arc welding, and a ruined cable, is the result. Ask me how I know.
Tip: Check the main engine-to-body ground. If the ground is weak then the throttle cable becomes the new ground path ! Not good. It can overheat the cable and damage the nylon inner sheathing....and cause sticky/binding movement
Cheers

take pictures of the connections at each end and the way the old one is routed.
I bought the one in the picture years ago because mine seemed to get stuck, i.e., the pedal would not move.
While looking at the pedal connection i pushed the accelerator pedal violently with my hand and something went "thuck", it got unstuck and has not given me any more trouble. This was years ago, the original cable is still in place. 1984 was a very good year for Jaguar parts produced in 1983.

Conventional wisdom is that lubrication is not needed as the nylon inner sheath simply doesn't require it. But, if you must lubricate (I find it hard to resist lubricating everything. It's a sickness.) avoid petro-based products.
Simply wearing out certainly seems plausible. It's a fair guess that these cables are always replaced to cure a stiff/sticky/binding action....but it isn't easy or convenient to open one up for examination to determine the nature of the failure.
Given that grounding problems are common on these old Jags I'm leaning more towards the 'overheated' explanation.
I might add that cables (throttle and transmission, typically) overheating due to poor engine grounds is not exclusive to old Jags by any means.

I have looked up the part number endlessly with no luck to it being in stock anywhere. Called a few local shops who work on British vehicles and they are looking into their suppliers. Might have to just fabricate one somewhere.

Yep. Ordered what I thought was the right part, but it was for the wrong sized motor. They don't have the right cable for the 4.2L. Tried Jagbits as well. ECS Tuning said they can order one in, but the ETA was for Nov 7th. That date passed and the ETA turned into "Back Ordered" With no ETA at all now.
