Trade for an xjs?
So I recently went up to dallas to look at an xjs its a 1988 and its is lets say rough this includes
rats
Bad fuel injector
Leaking sun roof
Paint fade
I think a dog enjoyed the taste of jag
but it has some great things too
V12? That couod go either way
Some good paint left
55k miles
Factory sun roof
Lots of service records
euro body kit and rims
and best of all some how even though there is a lake in the drivers seat area there is no rust
I was going to trade my 138k miles Mercedes 240d ive owned for a year it runs but only up to 30 and has some bad rust issues but no leaks
Could anyone get a carfax on the jag SAJNA5845JC142269
Jag sunroof
2003 jaguar xj8 broken
2001 f150
1983 Mercedes 240D project (paper clip challenge)
Bought for 500$ in april picture is after work
Before restoration

Thanks, if I were to repair would the rare options make the car any more special when I eventually do sell. I do paint myself and i have a guy who will do the inside for 700 the engine is the concerning part

All XJS guys like a challenge, but that car is for masochists! Many, many better candidates out there for cheap. Look in California. If if's not reliable enough to drive back, a U Haul truck and a car carrier isn't that expensive.

On the upside, there is what looks to be a shovel in the driver's footwell so the new owner can get right to work digging their own grave!
Jokes aside, that looks like a parts car and nothing more; although those Euro headlights look quite nice. Been trying to get my hands on a pair of those for years.

my plan is to call the guy and see how much he wants for the gold car or if thats too high than just the interior for the black car since the gold one was free/vary cheap to buy from a shop it had been abondon at im hoping he would let me have it and the black one for 700 plus the almost restored mercedes. Just hopefully two v12s make a right
though still undecided if i even want to trade him for the mercedes. i just hope if i cant fix one/both I could use one for parts and make back the money i lost so if any of you see jaguar xjs parts it will probably be my financial ruin

Keep watching Craig's List as I have 2 89 XJS' I bought both off Craigslist, one is a rust free Arkansas car and the other is a Rusty New jersey car for parts I gave $600.00 for one and $500.00 for the other so I have $1100.00 in 2 cars 1 complete near perfect interior and all the parts to finish Mine out very nicely. So a little patience should prevail, and you should be able to come up with a good start. Trading a running Mercedes for that XJS. You sure wouldn't be gaining anything. Just my thoughts.

Ahh it's amazing how these big cats seem to attract so many rats.. I just took my XJ-SC to the hobby shop and all my bate stations are now empty. Go for it, buy the champaign one too and I'll trade you another 240D for it It's a 4 speed manual so it will do at least 60mph if you have a strong wind behind you

Mr Forum Experts: "I'm afraid you've got a bad XJS, Mr Lotusjag"
Mr Lotusjag: "Oh, no, Mr Experts, I assure you that parts of it are excellent!"
On the road until late '17? You mean that happened to it in one year parked outside? Where was it parked? Godzilla's intestines? It looks half-digested. The others are right--that's a parts car at best, and only if it's cheap enough. I mean, that interior is the stuff nightmares are made of.

but the vin number is wdb123123123**** and that was just to good to let go. If I do get them I would definitely trade the gold one for a 240d though I might need the rear seats first

Here is another way to look at it:
I would not recommend an XJS in perfect cosmetic condition to 99.9% of people. At their age, they are too expensive to have them maintained and worked on by the small number of shops capable of doing it. Even a cosmetically perfect example will take more work, attention, and expertise to keep it properly running than most DIYers are either capable of, or willing to do.
IOW, there is more than enough to keep you busy and tinkering, if it's a really nice, well cared for, low miles, always garaged, etc. example. And the difference in cost between that kind of example and a 'free' car is so much less than the cost required to bring the 'free' car into that condition (even if you do all the labor).
Maybe some day a car like that would be worth saving, but that day is decades away. Right now you could get an exponentially better example for very little more $. I would recommend that direction if you really want an XJS.

Taking everything into consideration I think I'll go back on the hunt for a s type
