New Straight Six

I was excited to read about this until: "Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV)" and "is fitted with a Gasoline Particulate Filter"
This is useless BS that adds weight and more things to break while making no difference to mileage or emissions outside of EPA testing. Plus turbo + Gasoline Particulate Filter makes it all but certain that all engine noises will be faked through speakers.

Here's another article on this new engine.

I THINK I object to them referring to the present 6 and 8 cylinder engines as 'lumps'.

The thing I always loved about straight six engines, and I've worked on a bunch of them, was that it was always so much easier to access everything that needed worked on. Looking at the picture tho, I think that advantage has been completed negated.

The engine is also supposed to be part of the car's structure .

I understand to a limited degree the affection for manual transmission having owned numerous vehicles with them.
The reasons that they're less common and are discontinued is primarily due to two factors, modern auto transmission have many advantages and less disadvantages compared to both manual transmission and older automatic transmission.
Additionally the F type manual has probably been discontinued for the same reason that XJ-S manual was discontinued in 1980 , five years after introduction and sixteen years before the XJS was discontinued, despite manual transmission fans being enthusiastic about them, insufficient numbers actually buy them !
