Just wanted to though out there that I just put up my 2007 XKR for sale. It has 69K miles and is a 2 owner clean Carfax vehicle. There are no issues with it mechanical wise. It has a very clean original body but does have a front bumper crack. It has been my second driver and always garaged. The Carfax shows many 10k and 30k services by the Jag dealer, I have only owned it for 1 year and only had to do oil, replacement upper dash leather and headlight control module. My question to the forum is $22,900 a fair asking price?

After spending months looking at the market for 07-09's, and finally settling on an XK instead of an XKR, I think you might be asking too much. An 07 XKR with close to 70k is probably closer to 20k asking price - at a dealer. Sorry to say you are probably looking at getting offers around 18k.

I can't say if whether to color combo is rare. It comes down to finding the right buyer at the right time, but it appears to me you're priced too high, at least for me if I were in the market.

Per the price I always look at what's out there on the selling sites and price accordingly. Less if I want / need it gone, more if I'm just selling it. I think a lot of listed cars are overpriced.

 

I think its a fantastic price for this reason.
You can buy a XKR for 18k, but could not fix all the misgivings for the 4k difference.
Its most likely not going to be a 2 owner, Jaguar enthusiast owned. All problems fixed, the right color, the right wheels, the right tires.
(Don't know if most folks do the math. Perhaps they rather buy dirt cheap and cry.)

I agree with that as well of course I am a bit biased I believe for most high end cars there should to be a price plus book difference between the standard no history, niced/dinged/scratched, paint work car with unknown under the hood verses a well sorted enthusiast owned and taken care of vehicle - KBB does a bit with condition rating but no adjustment for carfax, maintenance, needs, or small things like does the car have Michelin or Sumitomo tires. This one is really well sorted and I love the car but its time to free up some funds. I am a Porsche nut and owner but I really love the X150 platform as this is my second to my 06 XK I sold 2 years ago. Some day down the road ill get that 5.0L XKR ...

Strange enough I searched my local tristate area for Convertible XKR price comparisons and did not find many for sale on Clist, Ebay, or even the market place on this site.

 

Look, perhaps folks need it explained. The book is for when you dont know the devil you are buying. This is the 20grand car you are looking for. You can buy a 10k car and spend another 10k getting it to this point, you still wont have the perfect color, paint, wheels, tires and known pedigree. Best of luck, there seems to be a lot of people here on this forum seeking your car ultimately.

 

Your XKR is very nice, has the service records and is hard to find in your area. For that reason, my asking price would be at the high end of the range. But the small crack in the front bumper cover is an obvious flaw, so I'd get it repaired. It shouldn't be expensive and there are mobile specialists who will come to you. Google "mobile bumper repair Philadelphia". That way you can honestly say that it needs nothing. Your XKR will sell itself.

Thanks guys. Yea its a tough decision with the bumper as this car has clear bra over the crack and original front bumper paint. Id hate for a mobile guy to do a hack job as its happened to me before on a cheap car luckily. I think the cost of fixing it by a good body shop may out weigh the price I get back but thats a tough one.

Unless you want to sit on it for a while.... list it at 19,900. 20,500 tops. I'd take the first offer over 17.5K.
These cars are just a bear to sell private party. What's interesting is the trade-in price tends to be not too much less-- which for my money makes trading in a better option if you are in that situation.

Having just been through the buying exercise a few weeks ago I can perhaps off some advice on selling your car.

Different country but I think the same rules apply.

I only spent 1 month searching online for a XKR, I knew what I wanted..Black paint and black interior and it had to be a late enough model that it did not have the aerial on the rear quarter.

It also had to be in very nice condition with no scheduled maintenance due for 1 year including tyres and brake pads.

My budget was 40K max.

There were a handful on the market that all fitted my criteria ( except price) , some were listed at 50K , most were listed around 43 to 45k , but having worked in a car dealership many years ago I knew that dealerships always inflate the asking price to allow for trade in value..believe it or not people would accept a higher trade in value rather than a reduction in car purchase value..they always thought their trade in was worth full retail value..so this "make the buyer feel good factor" margin built into dealers sell price was typically around 5K., this allowed for a high trade in price plus other costs associated with negotiating a sale of vehicle such as inspection defects requiring remediation to conclude sale.

So to walk onto a dealers yard and offer 5k less that the ask was not unreasonable if you had no trade in, of course they prefer you are not a cash buyer but thats another story.

Anyways..I drove several cars and would have been very happy to buy one of them but the private seller refused to drop below 42K and was fairly rude about it. (That car is still for sale)

The third car I purchased by remote control, it perfectly matched my requirements. The seller was realistic at having it advertised for 39,995.00, the lowest advertised price of any equivalent cars on the market and then I was able to get this price down a few more thousand by way of polite negotiation.

So the big reveal for me was discovering after I purchased the car that it had been on the market for 6 months, given it was the best condition of the equivalent cars available and was the best priced my takeaway to a seller is price your car well or it will sit around for a very long time with a for sale sign on it and you will waste many weekends keeping the car presented for sale and dealing with potential buyers. Sell it and move on.

My rule of thumb.."the first offer you get is usually the best offer you will get"

I agree here about the difficulty in selling XK/XKRs. Although we love them on this forum, it is not the most popular car out there. In addition, there are numerous cars to choose from. Yes there are some rags, but many are well taken care of. Since the buyer market is thin, the car must be pristine as well as a fair market value. I too believe that the high teens is the way to go for advertising and then go from there. You are also competing with 2010 XKs that might be a few dollars more but with the 5.0 and 3 years newer. Thanks. I have dropped it to 21.5k obo. There is not a single 07+ XKR is my market area for sale so will see. I agree its a thin buyers market out there and it will prob take some time due to being a specialty car.

Well I already have too many replacement cars. Its time for me to become more liquid ha. Current garage is 944 Turbo, Triumph Spitfire, 95 S6 Wagon, 09 A6 Super charge wagon, and 98 M3.

My daily is the 09 A6 avant but shhhh dont tell any one that I have a 10 Prius I bought real cheap for long commutes

Well Cee Jay thats a matter of opinion ha. Yes I love the Jag but all my cars do different things. I'm not selling it because I dislike it, the weather is good and now is the time to try. Like I said I could use the 20k back in the bank as I own the Jag outright. Most of my other classics are investment grade cars. Sorry but I don't see 07 XK prices going up.
