Default Front plate

The Ontario government hinted at eliminating the need for a front plate but ultimately decided to keep it law.

Obviously I was very disappointed as nothing should obscure the front end of an F type. I received 2 tickets last year for not having it on my 2015 so I am looking at options. I know of the removal bracket from other threads but has anyone mounted one off to the side? I seen a few corvettes on the weekend and I don’t mind the look.

Ive asked the dealer not to drill holes in the front cross bar on my soon to arrive 2020 so I’m looking at the best option.

Thanks

Love this option:

Welcome to Hide The Plate!

I'd do that before drilling into my nose too...

The new provincial government seems less interested in government intervention... maybe they will reconsider. I remember a website called stop100.ca which was attempting to convince the past liberal nanny government to increase speed limits to something closer to what people would normally drive and his website had good research. Different issue, but still car/driver focused.

This past government also published a website a few years ago asking people to give feedback on what mattered to them. Getting rid of the front plate and increasing speed limits, as I recall, was # 1 or #2 - #5, somewhere in this range... the government quickly took down the feedback they didn't like and eventually killed the site.

A Jaguar mechanic friend of mine placed a piece of metal behind the front grill and fastened earth magnets to the back of my plate and it worked great. No holes and as soon as I crossed the border, I just pulled it off. Now my FtypeR is Florida plated, so no front plate necessary. Going to do the same on my new FPace SVR.

I bought mine used, and unfortunately, holes were pre drilled. I would like to cover it somehow, just not sure if I will have to replace the cross piece and if so, how much.

The license brackets mounted to the side are actually screwed into the tow hook receiver. Unfortunately, the shape of the F-Type bumper would require the bracket to stick way out to allow the plate to face forward. Besides, it still garbages up the appearance. The right way to go is with the Sto 'N' Sho.

Thanks and I think I’ll go with the Sto n Sho. The Hide the Plate option is not available for now as the owner has health issues according to the web site.

There were already holes in the crossbar, so until I get the chance to install the P7 grill, I trimmed and bent my front plate to fit the bar (and cover the holes). Not legal to modify a license plate, but hopefully any cop will see this as better than no plate and I can avoid a ticket.
Good so far...

In my case, I have twice now noticed the cops eyeballing my "illegal" front plate, but then ignoring me after they saw the matching legal plate on the rear. Here in MD, I have twice received a ticket for no front plate, so my Euro plate seems to be an acceptable alternative.

I use my tow-hook mount only for annual state inspection. No one has bothered me about running one plate in 6 years.

Ordered Sto-N-Sho on Amazon.com on 5/22. Received and installed 5/24. Easy. I'll likely carry it in my trunk and slide in when needed.

It appears that enforcement in CA is spotty, though rigorously enforced in S.F.

I have taken several informal surveys counting cars with no front plate here in the San Diego area. One out of 10 cars - 10% - do not have a front plate. This is especially true of sports and "finer" cars, Jags of course, Mercedes, Lexus, Corvettes, etc. A CHP officer who I met at a Miata Club rally drives a Miata MX-5 without a front plate (as did most of the 32 cars on the last rally) and the CHP sergeant who lives next door has never said a word about my missing plate. So enforcement is lax in S.D. area too. Better things to do I guess.

I removed the ugly big front plate and replaced it with a sticker with a photo of the real plate. The sticker covers the holes in the front bar and I have the original plate in the trunk with double-sided tape already installed so I can stick it on the front of the car if the police forces me to do so. So far I’ve seen that the police has eyeballed me a couple of times but they’ve never stopped me, A bit surprising since the front plate

e is absolutely required by law in DK. It is also surprising is that this half-size number play does not give any trouble with pay by plate systems, which are used here for toll roads, bridges and parking.
