I must be crazy to add another project, but this 1998 XJR was parts car money, and came with a heartbreaking story. The british gent who bought it in 2004, passed away in 2013, and the car sat untouched since 2016. There truly was 1/2 inch of Georgia pollen and gunk, all over it. Battery was long dead, all 4 tired cracked and flat - but I could tell it was well loved during its life.
Looking forward to going through it slowly, system by system before attempting to start. With new battery...it shows 76,251 miles. Have contacted Matheny Jaguar (now Fields) in Jacksonville, to see if they will provide service details. Carfax gives only intriging blurbs, like "Transmission replaced" 2002 and "Head Gasket replaced" 2004.
Lovely! And if you are lucky, it's actually a Jaguar Racing Green Metallic (colour code: HGZ) cat under that layer of gunk - that's the best colour!
Cleaning it with a water pressure cleaner (then a spongy rag with dishwashing detergent, and then pressure cleaner again) would be like unwrapping your present under the X-mas tree...
This one is the kind I love. I'm fact, I am now fixing them for charity 😂 I bought a really low mileage S-Type (30k) at auction. Was a killer killer deal ($250 USD pre fees) but turns out as much as I like it, I have my other Jag projects to do. This one had been stolen and then involved in a police chase a a minor crash that really only caused cosmetic damage but did rip the low pressure service port from the AC (why did they put it there to begin with!). Anyhow, there is a charity locally that offers assistance with housing, jobs, mentoring for foster kids that never got adopted and really have no family. They are often asking for donated vehicles that are reliable and safe to help these young adults who were dealt a pretty crap hand in life a way to get to work or school. So someone is going to get this one once I fix a few minor things. I figure as many as I can keep on the road is a worthy cause in and of itself. This makes it even better!
