Roanoke, Virginia

I am set to take a temporary position in Roanoke and wonder if any of you know of any reasonably priced short-term rentals (studio/efficiency/camper) in the Roanoke, Salem or Vinton area? June 10 thru Aug 6.

Kitty, can't say that I know of any up in that area. But, while you are there, boogie a little north on the Blue Ridge Parkway and take the long way back home (up to Charlottesville, then take I-64 back home). I think you will enjoy the ride. Plan on it taking most of the day though. I think you will be stopping a lot to just enjoy the views.

My job up there will consist of driving between Roanoke and Abingdon so I'm sure I'll get to see a lot of it! I believe my route to get there is 64 to 81--I'm super excited to get to see the area--I'm from the mountains and I miss them in the good weather.

Kitty, when you are out on I-81, looking like you are going to have a few chances to let the kitty stretch her legs. he he he he. Enjoy the views. I love that area too.

Roanoke is @ mile 135-150, so Abington is probably 130-135 miles from Roanoke all by Interstate.

I've also traveled the region extensively while working by automobile--as far as Lewisburg, WV and Harrisonburg, VA.

I love to travel the mountain roads, but I never want drive Hwy 58 East of Abington again. Last trip, I was absolutely miserable for 1 hr. with car sickness.

Another great crooked road is Hwy 421 in Bristol, TN/VA East to Mountain City, TN. Daniel Boone built it, and Tennessee has never straightened a single curve. You make a turn every second or two, and cannot average 30 mph driving dangerously. Seems like the longest straightaway must be about 100'.

My suggestion: Look for alternative routes.
