Austin Area Jag Servicing?

Perhaps we can pool our knowledge here.

Long story short, after trying to deal with the only remaining dealership left in Austin to get a transponder key programmed, I was going to go to San Antonio for service. (I had a local locksmith cut the key, but he said only a dealership can program it). I then found one other place that does Jag specific servicing and repairs. They're "Classic Jaguar" out on 290 west of the "Y" at Oak Hill.

They seem to be able to do anything you want on any Jag model. They programmed the key for me in a few minutes.

They're closer than San Antonio, but still quite a drive for me. Does anyone else have any experience with Jag specific servicing in Austin/Buda/Kyle/San Marcos? Not oil changes or that sort of thing, but repairs beyond regular maintenance?

I don't have specific experience with anyone else in the Austin area other than Maund Jaguar - now Jaguar Austin, mainly because I was under warranty until recently. I have heard good things about Motorcars (Jaguar, Land Rover, Mini Cooper Auto Repair Specialists 13560 N US HWY 183 Austin, TX 78750), and JagTech (JagTechs "Jaguar Specialists of Austin"). Also, someone left me a card for LuxuryAuto (JaguarRepairAustin.com). I might try one of these guys soon, but Classic is close to me, so I'll probably heard over there next.

Thanks for that, anindyam! I'll check them out. It's nice to have options. :)

There's a discussion on some options for Austin folks on the Land Rover Austin thread here:https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...-austin-53872/

You're definitely not alone in wanting options in Austin!

I have had good luck with JagTechs at 13724 N. IH 35. (brakes) Will use the dealer for warranty work of course, But I have not had a warranty issue so don,t know if the dealer is any good. Any opinions ???????

Jaguar Mechanic Options

I recently had 60k maintainence done on my 2005 X-Type and my 2006 XK8 at Marshall Motorsports. The XK8 also needed front brakes. I highly recommend using Greg Marshall. He has 20+ years at Maund Jaguar as a Gold Certified Jaguar Master Tech and trained all of the mechanics while they were open.
I always walk away knowing a little more about my cars just talking to him. He is in Cedar Park, 512-940-0415, mnmdog1@aol.com.
P.S. He is a lot cheaper than the Jag House.

Although this is an old thread, I wanted to weigh in and share my recent experience with JagTechs. My recently acquired 97 XK8 started making an occasional tapping noise from the front of the engine, and I wanted the ear of an experienced Jaguar mechanic to help me diagnose what's going on, and from looking at the options in Austin, JagTechs seemed to be the most focused on these cars. My car had already received secondary timing chains and tensioners in 2012, and the noise only presented when gunning the engine, particularly upon cold starts. That's not symptomatic of a VVT because the noise only occurred when oil pressure is increased, so I was stumped re what could be making the noise if it wasn't tensioners or a VVT unit. Although there was no clear resolution of what might be causing the issue when I visited, I was incredibly impressed by the opportunity to speak directly with a mechanic who is an experienced Jag specialist and work with him in demonstrating the issue to be sure that he was hearing what I was hearing. He also volunteered to take the time to put the car up on the rack and go over it with me so that I could see the car's mechanical condition and look for possible future problems that I might need to expect. Felipe (Phil) is clearly a Jaguar enthusiast, and I appreciated his passion and experience with these cars. I came away feeling that I was dealing with someone who is knowledgeable, honest and not trying to sell me unnecessary work. I still haven't made a decision on living with an occasional noise vs. doing expensive exploratory surgery on my engine, but whatever work gets done now or in the future will be done at JagTechs.

I second the recommendation for JagTechs in Austin. I've been taking my cat there exclusively for many years.

Quick update - JagTechs closed their doors last week and recommend customers now move to LuxuryAuto Works. Dwain and Jeremy from JagTechs have moved there.

Sad news... Their Web site is still up, but the phone line is disconnected. I interacted with Luxury Auto Works once to get a service estimate, and they were very professional. Haven't done any service with them yet.

Anybody know what happened? JagTechs were my go to guys...

Luxury Auto Works in Austin--two locations in the Austin Area. They offer free loaner cars and try to have your car serviced in 24 hours.

Avoid luxury auto works

Used to go to jag techs, they were very good, sucks that they closed. I tried luxury autoworks recently for my oil change on my 07 XK. They wanted $7k for control arms and a transmission mount. That's absolutely ridiculous. I get some people wanting factory parts, but its a $15k car out of warranty, theres no point to put oem parts on it. And 20 hours of labor is insane.

anindyam 07-31-2019 12:56 PM

Agree with your luxury autoworks assessment. They wanted to do the same for me and I had JagTechs replace my bushings all around the car for a lot less on my other x350.

I've got a buddy at work that has a mid 90s XJS who takes his car to Colvin Auto here in Austin. You might try them, but I haven't as I've recently traded my SV8 on a new Alfa Giulia QV.
