fuel level sensor, wont pass inspection

My name is Marty and I moved to the Dallas area in 2010. I have a 2003 Jaguar XJ8 with 88k miles that won't pass inspection because of code p0460, fuel level sensor. I had someone turn off the engine light but the state inspection computer still shows the p0460 code. Unfortunately Plano Jaguar wants $2,400. to repair, (mostly labor). Is there a way to remove the code or can anyone recommend another Jaguar repair shop in the Dallas metro area that is more cost effective? Many thanks!

Do a google search on "fuel level sensors jaguar forums" and you will find several threads on this topic. The labor is high because 1) it's a dealer and 2) they have to drop the tank on the XJ to get to it.

I like to use motorcarman from this forum for those jobs I can't do myself, but he is in Decatur. There is also Jim's Jag and Jag Mac in Dallas that have been recommended. A couple of indies in Fort Worth and the mid cities as well.

It will take some driving before the code goes away, unless it comes back because you do indeed have a bad sensor. Didn't know they would fail for that code or maybe it's any code?

If you have been here since 2010 and just now need a Jag shop, you have a very reliable car. Worth fixing I would say. Just find a good indie shop.

Unfortunately the p0460 code, (fuel level sensor) does cause the car to fail the state inspection. I've driven the car over 300 miles after the check engine light was turned off but the p0460 code still appears on the states computer and fails. I will check with those recommended dealers you mentioned. Many thanks.

if you have to go into the tank, you might as well consider replacing the fuel pump while in there.

if the fuel level sensor is stuck, you may want to try running a few tanks with chevron techron fuel treatment. walmart.
