Looking for shop in Phoenix to do Transmission Fluid Change
 

Hi folks, I know Dave comes highly recommended, but he doesn't want to change the fluid because he is under the impression that it causes problems.

SO, has anyone had their car done?

As to why I can't: I tried doing it myself, but even after using kroil and a ridiculous amount of force, I was unable to remove the fill plug. After breaking a wrench on an 8mm allen key stub, I welded the two together. Using a cheater pipe, I felt the allen key start to round out in the plug, so I stopped there.

Hello, there is a tranny shop on 7th ave south of camelback, called Automotive Transmission Experts. Address is 4422 n 7th ave . They work on everything, but do a lot of work on the old classics including Jags. The owners name is Paul. See if he can help.

I take my car to: British Automotive Repair - Welcome near 101 and Raintree. They are a British car specialists and the owner Gregory is a certified Jag fanatic.

When I had the fluid and filter done it was about $600 including the labor to hammer out all the stuck torx bolts and replace them with the newer, larger ones.

I finally took it to Roy's Auto on Cave Creek. My aunt and uncle recommended them. When I called (on a Thursday), the owner told me that his Jag Guy wasn't available until Monday, and recommended I drop it off Monday morning.

I initially wanted a fluid dump and fill only (with the intent of doing the full pan service in a few more miles), but I had noticed that the pan was slightly darker in one corner, and so did the Jag Guy. He called me and recommended a new pan. When I mentioned replacing the sleeve, he said he didn't recommend doing it until the next interval, since they rarely fail. That jives with what I've read here (do it since you are in there, but don't hear of failures).

I also had a full synth oil change done along with a cabin filter and an engine air filter.

I got out for just under $800. While I wanted (and tried) to do this work for less, I feel that I got a very fair deal and will recommend them again.

Also, since picking it up (as discussed in the no 2-1 shift thread) it shifts much more aggressively and will shift from 2 to 1 if I hammer it while going slowly. Much better for my driving-style!

We can close this; I think I found a good mechanic here.
