Repair shop in Austin for my '85 XJ6

Hi all,

I'm in Austin for awhile (from San Francisco).

Now I find that I need a (good) mechanic for my Jag - '85 XJ6 VP. What I have found, though, is that all of the shops that I have contacted won't work on any older model Jags - pre '90. Of course there is Classic Jags, but ironically, they only work on pre-70s (and also really only do restorations). So, where do I go to get work done on my car? One shop told me that San Antonio would be the closest place. That is about 90+ miles from me.

My car just started making this familiar sound - the last time I heard something like this the flywheel was cracked, and was about to fly off (ok. sorry for the pun). So driving that distance isn't really an option. I could have it towed, hoping my insurance will pay for some of it. But that seems a bit extreme.

Anyone around this area have any suggestions?

TIA

Did you try JagTechs? Dan & Felipe are former Jag mechanics at Charles Maund Jaguar. They're very good. No affiliation, btw.

Yes, I did talk to them. But, they only work on 2000 or later models. Not on my '85.
