Next BAJrs run :: New Date Proposed

It's been a while...... we should be able to get one more run in before the end of the year.

Checking this date...... does Sept 28th work for people ? (I tried Sep 21st in another thread, but that doesn't work for quite a few people (I got a lot of sad PMs overnight)

Location / venue tbd (Ideas welcomed)

I was thinking about the Blackhawk Museum again.... that was fun the last time, just need to get the restaurant more prepared for the onslaught of a bunch of hungry Jaguar owners.

Or this place... AUTO-VINO.ORG Haven't been but looks interesting.

So...... please reply to this thread yay or nay on the date, and please feel free to give venue suggestions.

As an extra incentive, I can offer to make anyone who attends their special BAJrs car decal as seen below..... color and sizing can be varied to suit your car/application

Yea - on the 28th. In actuality I'm flexible as the end of September is currently clear for me. I'll stay tuned for the final decision in regards to the date and destination, but I do like the idea of having a run somewhere within the confines of SF, SJ and San Ramon, as currently suggested.

DaveC 08-09-2014 01:51 PM

We're in. I agree with Marc on the location of the run. Look forward to seeing everyone.

Rhett 08-09-2014 03:30 PM

We are good for the 28th as well. Both venues sound intriguing as we've not been to either one. Ideally I'd like to stay within 200 miles of San Rafael as that's what my AAA service is good for. ;-)

enderle 08-09-2014 05:24 PM

We're in

We are in too.

Sarc 08-10-2014 02:04 PM

I'm in!

Date looks good for now. Yes, ideally not too far from San Jose.

david55838 08-11-2014 04:36 PM

Sorry, can't make this date. Drive on, kitties!

primaz 08-12-2014 11:38 PM

cannot make it but are you folks up for another event in October?

Nardoswiss 08-22-2014 04:39 PM

Sorry for the late reply.

Unless something unexpected happens, I am in on the 28th.
Even though I don't drink, AutoVino seems to be interesting. Plus, we have not been there yet. :)

DATE LOCKED :: BAJrs Sep 28th

Ok, thats enough "Yes"es for me.

Please block your calendars.

I will now work on a proposal for the event and post soon.

Looking forward to this, the next BAJrs meet up !

Sarc 09-08-2014 01:36 PM

So....... we did some work on this over the weekend.

This is the proposal :

Sunday 28th Sept

Meet in the car park behind the Fire Station in the middle of Saratoga at 10am. Exact address is 20473 Saratoga Los Gatos Rd, Saratoga, CA 95070

Leave at 10.30am, taking route 9 onto route 35 (Skyline Blvd). We would make a brief stop for photos at one of the vista points along the route that is paved and has a lot of room for cars. Then back down the 84 to Old Port Lobster Shack in Portola Valley for lunch. We should get there around 11.45am~12.00pm

PROs :We have never done Skyline with the BAJrs before. We talked about doing Alices a few times, but were always put off by the potential issues of group parking and needing a booking ahead of time. The road is great. The view from the vista point is great. The Old Port Lobster Shack food is great (they have plenty of other non-sea food things) and they are casual and we likely wouldn't need a reservation if he numbers are reasonable. Once we have had lunch there you are done for the day. The 280 freeway is 4 minutes away so you can take the rest of the day off. This was another reason for not choosing Alices, ie you would still only be about 2/3 the way through the drive by the time we got there. I would prefer to get the drive done and enjoy lunch, then an easy freeway jaunt home.

CONs : The 9 onto Skyline Blvd is pretty twisty and also has 2 sections that are single track, with stop lights. The 84 coming back down to the freeway is also very twisty. All of these roads are frequented by cyclists, bikers, car any and all of whom can be nuts so there can be some traffic/obstacles to contend with.

I would also offer the chance just to meet us at the Lobster Shack for lunch if you didn't want to do the drive (although it would be a shame to miss the opportunity)

Here is a link to the exact route on Google maps :

https://www.google.com/maps/dir/Old+...!2d37.2585!3e0

We did the route yesterday and it took a little under an hour, including a 5 minutes vista stop. Total drive is just over 31 miles.

I would welcome feedback from locals on this proposal.

Scott and Wendy,

Thanks a lot guys for finding time to plan and organize everything!

I have taken this route many many times, and it is genuinely awesome! Especially without slow (and I mean veeeery slow) prius drivers on the road. So, for those of you who have any doubts about participating in the run - go for it!

Also, it seems like I am going to follow Dave and Jill's lead and keep representing our small Jag community in Chicago, and hence won't be able to join you on this run. :( It really sucks, but most likely I am leaving early in the morning on the 28th...sh#t.

aratnam 09-09-2014 10:26 AM

Run on 9/28

Drive sounds awesome- thank you so much for arranging it. Really looking forward but we will probably skip on the lunch plan since I and my wife are both vegetarian.

DaveC 09-10-2014 07:50 AM

We're in for sure. See you all then.
Dave & Jill

I normally come down 35 from SF then head west via 84 to the coast. The 84 stretch has less traffic and is much much faster. You can't definitely get into 4th gear if you are so inclined. Only problem is once you're at the 84/1 junction you're far from home so it makes the drive long. Your route is more doable if you want a shorter drive. Although I'm guessing we will hit a lot of traffic once we head east on 84. There's really no passing and it's tight and slow.

Sounds fun, I can make it. Looking to meet some Jag owners.

rocam81 09-11-2014 04:59 PM

New ride and ready to rock

We are in! See you then.

Will update my profile after showing it during run....
Tim

Sounds like we are on for a good run.

I will work on an attendee list over the weekend and keep the list updated on this thread
