ok i am stumped and hope someone can bring light to this situation. my buddy has said car and problem listed in the title. with everything setup and plugged in fuse will blow as soon as the key is turned on. we have disconnected the wiper motor and the washer jets work perfect. swapped a motor from a 2000 s type and the motor rotated for a few seconds before blowing the fuse. changed the fuse and no more motion. hard wired both motors and had continuous rotation from both. swapped relays as well with no luck. checked under the dash and didnt see any wires that appeared to be pinched or located to where they can be pinched ie behind the brake pedal. any suggestions on where i can go next or anyone who has had a similar issue. thanks

 

Chi, when you say that it is blowing a fuse, what is the fuse number. This will help me narrow down where the problem lies. There are a number of fuses associated with the wiper circuit.

As for quick checks to do in the mean time, i would first start with trying to unplug the wiper stalk on the steering column to see if that fixes anything when a new fuse is put in. It is possible that you have a pinched wire inside the steering column that is leading to a direct short to ground.

 

I would also look at where the wiper motor is mounted. Too much corrosion can draw too many amps also....I like Thermo's idea too. If you are constantly moving your steering column up and down, or a wire is rubbed through riding against it, you will short to ground.....Just don't panic, and the problem will show itself.
