Default 2002 Stock AM/FM/Cass Radio Replacement Recommendations?

I have always had good luck on this forum getting great advice, so here we go again. I was wondering what the community might recommend as a decent upgrade to her stock basic radio combo (pics attached). Not sure if the Climate Control is integrated into the stereo harness/console on this one.

VIN: SAJEA51D42XC85---

Basic upgrade would include:
(1) AM/FM/CD Receiver
(2) Bluetooth
(3) MP3
(4) Aux

Desirable add-on's
(1) Rearview camera capable
(2) NAV
(3) DVD
(4) Function Control From Steering Column

I see many, many entertainment combos claiming to be 2002 Jag X-Type compatible, but would rather have the experience of the group steer me in the right direction. Open to advice on wiring harnesses, amps, speakers, controls, rear cameras, etc.

This is project, not looking for a quick swap (unless there is something out there that will fit the bill!)

Thanks in advance.

Daro31,

Looking good!

I have been looking around also and you may also need to get

Antenna adapter:Metra 40-EU10 Antenna Adapter ($6-$7) and
Wiring harness Metra 70-9500 Receiver Wiring Harness ($9).

Kinda looking at:

Jensen VX7020 Receiver wNav/DVD/CD/Bluetooth/USB
Metra 99-9501B Dash Kit
Metra 40-EU10 Antenna Adapter
Axxess ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Control Adapter
Esky® Rear Backup Camera
BW® 2.4G Wireless Color Video Transmitter And Receiver For Vehicle Backup Camera

A little concerned getting the audio outputs to the speakers. I think the existing amp is in the trunk and will need to bypass the amp and connect to the speaker wires after the amp.....

I opened the package last night and find you are right, about the antenna adaptor. I have a wiring diagram so will go at making my own harness for the speaker connections.

Hi Guys,

Not here to hijack your post. Just to let you know I'm in the same boat/process as well.

I just bought a 2004 X-Type about a month ago. I'm in the process of upgrading my sound system as well. The car has the basic audio sound system in it without NAV. Here's what I ordered/plan to have installed :

a) Kenwood Excelon DNX6990HD
... DVD/AM/FM
... GPS Navigation by Garmin
... Bluetooth
... SiriusXM
... Rear View Camera capability

b) Clarion CC4001U Rear View Backup Camera

c) Front Speakers (Pioneer TS-A1685R 4-Way 6.5" Car Speakers)

d) Rear Speakers (Pioneer TS-A1685R 4-Way 6.5" Car Speakers)

e) Antenna Adapter (Jaguar RADIO Antenna Adapter Wire Harness Plug 2000-08)

f) Jaguar X-Type ISO Stereo Head Unit Harness

g) A Metra 99-9501B SDIN/DDIN Dash Install Kit

h) 3ft Car Dash Board Flush Mount Panel USB 2.0 DC 3.5mm Extension Audio Cable Lead to allow connection for an iPod/iPhone. Plugs into back of Kenwood unit and is to be mounted in the lighter compartment area.

i) SiriusXM Antenna

j) GPS Antenna

k) SWI-RC unit for interfacing the steering wheel button controls with the Kenwood stereo unit

I think I have all the bases covered. Needless to say, I'm seriously thinking I'm going to get this professionally installed. I'll do a before and after photo shoot (maybe a video) if you'd like.

Dave

Default Double DIN Pioneer Radio Install

During Christmas vacation I finally got around to the install, and it came out nicely. I do seem to have a small issue with the remote steering wheel controls in that sometimes the volume up down work right and the next time I start the car both volume controls turn up the volume but not down.

I probably didn't have to,but I pulled both seats for best access and as I knew I would be leaning in their a long time. With a wiring guide from Sonic for which car wiring colours hook up to which radio leads I nervously cut the connector off of the car harness and went to work soldering and heat shrinking each of about 20 connections. It worked the first time.
The biggest problem was getting the double din unit flush with the face plate. Sonic whom I bought the unit from says the Pioneer unit will work, but not with ought a little butchery. I had to grind the plastic nub which project from the fan unit as well as take some meat off the heat sink. Hopefully as I live in Canada and this is my winter car that will have no impact. After getting it all back together I discovered I had the USB cable left over so that will be a job for today. I also discovered that one stock speaker was blown, so hade to change that. I am glad I have a nice warm garage because it turned into about a 10 hour job. I have included some photos.

Seat out made access a little easier, it all needed a good cleaning anyway.

Plastic nub on heater box that holds the unit to far out of the bezel

Check colours twice and try and keep it in order, a real spaghetti mess when your done.

HAPP NEW YEAR!

Decided to go ahead with the Jensen VX7020 head unit. The driver's side front and rear speakers were shot so also replaced all four OEM speakers with 6.5" speakers from Boss.

Jensen VX7020 Receiver wNav/DVD/CD/Bluetooth/USB/AVI
Metra 70-9500 Jaguar 2003-Up/Land Rover 2005-Up 20 pin Harness
Metra 99-9501B Dash Kit
Metra 40-EU10 Antenna Adapter
Axxess ASWC-1 Steering Wheel Control Adapter
Esky® Rear Backup Camera
BW® 2.4G Wireless Color Video Transmitter And Receiver For Vehicle Backup Camera
Boss 6.5" Speakers

I went ahead and used the Metra wiring harness kit since it allowed me to do all of the wiring outside the car and simply fit the new radio connector into the OEM harness connector.

I still need to fine tune the dash kit fit below the climate control unit, and will go after that minor issue in a few days.

Instead of removing the four door panels (and resulting damage/replacement of door clips) I elected to remove the OEM speaker grill and gutted the existing speaker housing to make room for the new speakers. I was able to then mount the new speakers into the old housing shell by drilling new mounting holes to match the new speakers.

The only real issue I had was the speaker wire leads on the rear harness were too short to tap into. I had to cut out the OEM connector on the old speaker housing and soldered the new speaker wires onto the OEM speaker connector tabs and simply plug this back into the harness.

Overall satisfied with the final results....

Thanks to all who responded.
