Yes you can buy just the water pump itself for like $32, here’s one I found http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/2002/jaguar/x_type/cooling_system/water_pump.html
As for the complete housing unit.. yep.. They are averaging about $250.00. It’s my understanding that a bulletin was issued from Jag on 04/03 regarding “staining around the exterior of the pump”. IDK.. my guess is if your staining then they suggest you replace everything??? IDK.. I’m so sorry.. I’m a S-Type guy not a X type.. you might have better luck in the actual X –Type section.. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=14
