2003 X-Type AWD curtain airbags deployed when closing door

So the car was in park, got out of the vehicle, opened the driver side rear door to put something in the back seat, closed the rear door(calmly and with normal force) and both driver side airbags deployed.

The dealership advised the curtain airbag needs to be replaced along with the headliner since it cracked. However they mentioned nothing about the sensors and cant give a reason as to why they deployed.

I cant find anything online regarding this happening to Jaguars, no recalls, no other forum posts. Can you suggest where I might look to for a cause? It seems to me that a faulty sensor would be a cause but they wouldnt want to admit that.

I once remembered reading a post where another member released his driver side seat belt and the buckle hit the b pillar and his air bags deployed. Sounds liek a faulty sensor but there is nothing which can be done as the vehicle is out of warranty. My advice is to hit up ebay and buy your self some new airbags and head liner. I know the situation sucks but its the joys of owning a vehicle.

Maybe someone on this forum is doing a part out and they would be willing to help out a fellow member?

Is there a test for the sensor? Id like to make sure so that once the replacement parts go in, this wont happen again. I dont know if the vehicle has one of those black box sort of things that records what happens right before airbag deployment.

Man, that's messed up. I would at least call Jaguar on that one. Even though it's out of warranty that should definitely not happen. Do you know if there was any evidence the car might have been in an accident at some point and maybe that was replaced? Maybe something like that would be covered under your insurance. Sounds really expensive. Sorry to hear about your situation.
