OBD II Heads Up

OBD II Heads Up
Just wanted to log this in the forum so no else has the trouble I hit (assuming they search the forum first).
I bought the Innovate Motorsports OT-2 OBD device with the intention of checking/clearing OBD codes, playing with the Dyno functions and other stuff. Unfortunately, it doesn't work with my 2003 X-Type. It will power up just fine and even connect to my iPhone via WiFi. However, it doesn't see the Electronic Control Unit (ECU). I contacted the manufacturer by phone (they ignored my emails) and they said essentially, "Oh well....". I don't mean this as a slam against the company. I mean, I would have liked to get a fix from them, but I understand they can't troubleshoot for cars they don't have access to.
I know the device does in fact work because it does all it should when plugged in to my wife's 2006 VW Passat. (Which only makes me want it more )
If anyone does know of an OBD II device that will talk to an app on my iPhone, I'd love to hear from you.
Anyway, that's all for now... Now back to your regularly scheduled web browsing....

Bahnjee, first off, what protocols is the reader good for. You have 5 protocols that you can possibly have. If the reader is only good for say 3 of the 5, then you may have 1 of the 2 that it can't support. There have also been a few revisions to the OBD protocol and if you got one that is specifically designed for the latest and greatest stuff out there, it may not want to work with the older systems. This is where knowing exactly what you are after can help. There are lots of options out there. Trying to figure out which one to get to fit your needs can be a little intimidating.

Primarily, I'm looking to read the status codes, but I figured while I was at it, it would be interesting to have some additional gauges (read 'toys'), ability to dyno test, and fuel economy info. I'm in over my head a little on this whole OBD thing, but I figured I could learn as I go. I'm not even sure I know what you mean by supported protocols. In my world, the protocols I deal with are TCP/IP, HTTP, SMTP, etc. (Yeah, I'm a geek by trade.)
I've written to another company to ask about their Kiwi WiFi device and its compatibility with my Jag. They're now asking for the OBD pin-out. Got any info on that, Thermo?
Figuring out what device will work with my car/phone can be more than intimidating, it can be expensive! Is there any Jag OBD resource info you can point me to? I love reading technical manuals. :-) I found very little info on OBD in JTIS.

Disguay, I don't have an Android phone, I have an iPhone. I don't see a version of Torque for the iPhone. Also, in my first search for devices that work with the Rev app, it seemed that the Elm device was no longer made. I don't recall just where I saw that, but with that in mind and the fact that the Rev app developers' first suggestion is for the Kiwi WiFi device, that's the way I'm leaning.
Ryan, are your certain that the Jag uses Can-Bus? From what I see online here, the Jag uses J1850 PWM.

There is no Torque Pro in the App Store, and the publisher's web site says, Android, Android and Android. No mention of iPhone anywhere (except in their forum where multiple posts ask that the app be made available for the iPhone, to which there are NO responses).
That's rather unfortunate because I love what I can see of the app. :-(

I apologize bahnjee, I guess I got my sources wrong. I could have sworn when I bought the adapter and the app that it stated for android and iphone and i remember watching a video on a site that wasn't youtube about torque running on an iphone. The more I think about this, I think this was the first generation of the software and I guess it eventually got phased out on the iphone.
