al50bmgshooter, for your problem, I would tell you to connect a multimeter across the battery and then start the engine. Did the voltage jump from 12.6 (motor not running, not cranking the engine) to about 11.0 (while cranking the engine) to around 14.4 (for the first 30 seconds or so after starting the engine) and then finally ramping down to 13.7 VDC (where it should stay as you start electrical loads inside of the car)?
If you are seeing a final voltage down around 12.8 VDC (or anything under 13.0 VDC) then you have either a bad alternator or a battery wiring issue. I would first start with replacing both of the battery cables as this is the more likely suspect. The alternators in our cars are pretty beefy and the possibility of them failing is pretty low. The cables are much more likely.
Also, when the battery light comes on, does it seem to come on when you are up in the RPMs, but never with the motor at lower RPMs. If this is the case, then that will isolate it down to the alternator. I have seen similar issues with other Ford alternators and them acting this way.
What year is your car. I will look at the diagrams and make sure that we are not possibly looking at something else.
