2006 Sportwagon Rear Glass - Help
Hello all,
I am desperately trying to find replacement gas struts for the rear hatch lift glass for my X-type. I am needing the gas support lifters or struts that hold up the glass in the rear hatch (the ones with open ended/slotted ends, at least as far as I can see), NOT the actual lift supports for the hatch itself (which has ball or sockets on both ends). I am tired of the lift glass falling after I have leaned in the trunk area and almost killing me. I have tried for hours to find these parts (left & right struts) but no luck. I found a thread with people discussing installing these struts without destroying the headliner, but nothing about the parts themselves. If anyone could help me with part numbers or a link or anything I would be very grateful. Thanks, all. |
Might not be much use to you over the pond but could be worth giving them a call.

Found it, search C2S37601 for the glass strut.
Other forum posts suggest that if glass and/or hatch struts are weak (apparently they work in tandem) the hatch part tends to drop sharply at inopportune times. Hatch strut is a different part # from the above. Here's one link to supplier, but there are others by googling part #. https://parts.jaguarpalmbeach.com/showAssembly.aspx?ukey_product=49191623&ukey_assem bly=5962063&ukey_make=5796&ukey_model=0&ukey_drive line=0&ukey_trimlevel=0&modelYear=0 |
Found them
Thank you so much all for the input. I found them and even though almost everybody was out of stock I managed to order two of them from autoreservejaguar.com an online retailer in the UK and even with overseas shipping I paid less then I would have if I bought them in the states. Again thanks.

I use Autoreserve all the time for X Type bits.
I did have a problem with an aircon compressor that they sold me but they refunded the money immediately and didn't even want the old one back. Obviously I still had to pay to have the old one removed, the replacement fitted and another gas recharge but they were straight up front about it. |
How to replace
Hi I've looked for a video of how to replace the struts on the glass hatch window on the 2004 thru 3008 jaguar X-type estate wagon. I hate to tear apart the headliner. Please anyone who might see this, is there a video for this. HELP.
thank you Jaguar people mike |

I've done this. . I followed the post by csteffan. The most difficult part is unclipping the struts from the roof. Its done by feel, and I'm sure I was trying to unclip the strut "down" before I realized its to the side (outboard I think). Anyway - if you get to this stage - think about the orientation. I might not have it perfectly described, or 100% accurate, but its easier "when you know how", and I think the direction is part of the secret. The first one took way too long, the second was a couple of minutes. The other hard part is getting the plastic trim to clip in properly. I had the headliner replaced shortly after. Not related to the struts - its was already sagging, but I wish I's asked the trim shop take a photo of how the struts are installed! Good luck!
