Default 3.0 replace 2.5

Hi All -
I'm looking for help from anyone who has done or knows about what I am seriously considering. I have a 2003 X-Type with a 2.5 L matched with 5 speed manual tranny.
It looks like her timing chain has gone (a common issue I'm told), which is a 20 hour job and pulling the engine to do it.
I really like the car with its AWD handling and had to search high and wide for the manual vs automatic. That being said, would keep the car for a long time.
Since the engine gets pulled to do this job, I want to replace it with the significantly quicker 3.0 L engine (easily obtainable) if its a straight swap. This could be done for less than a $1,000 difference of replacing the timing chain, if so.
Everything I can find and in talking to some mechanics, these engines are identical except for displacement. It seems that this should be a straight, easy swap. But I can't get an answer from mechanics at the Jaguar dealer. They don't know, as they aren't trained to change engines, apparently.
I just don't want to get into this and find that the harness is different or something in the intake is larger for more air, or the main computer won't match or who knows what.
Can anyone confirm?
Thanks much, Michael

Direct bolt-in, although you should get and change the engine module, too.

If you have the 3.0, might as well let the car know that it has it.

Just finished mine on my 2003 manual fit right in I had to just swap the harness I didn't change the module so the car thinks it's running the 2.5 still but runs and drives great noticeably faster

Thanks guys for your answers. I guess it leads to more questions...as expected, right?

wa3ra - is the module something you would get used or new, and do you know about how much? I take it its a pretty easy swap too, bolt on, plug-in. ? Also, I get it about letting car know, but what do you gain, or does it really matter? I'm all for it if its a fairly low-cost matter.

trenaldo - you said you had to change the harness. So, meaning it wouldn't run or hook-up with the original (2.5) harness, that they are in fact different? Mind you, I'm having a mechanic do the work, not up for it myself.
Also, how much more cost/time does the harness invlove?

Thanks again so much for your help guys.
M

In my case I had to change the harness over because the engine came out of an automatic car and went into a manual car the tranny connections where a little different everything else plugged right in

Cool - That makes sense about the tranny issue.
I'm sure that whatever engine I get, 99 out of 100, it will be from a automatic car too.
Do you remmeber the additional you spent on harness, etc.?

I was also thinking that if I'm putting a used engine in, possibly unsure of mileage, that maybe I should have a new tining chain installed first.

Does anyone have experience or knowledge of the timing belt issues with these motors?
My mechanic said it was a common problem or repair.

Use the harness in your car that's what I did

OK, so I guess I'm a little confused. What do you mean by 'had to change the harness over'?
Thx

Just take the harness off the bad motor and swap it to the 3.0
Simple as that

OK, great!
I was hoping to use the existing harnesss in my car (2.5). The engine I'll get won't come with one.
It'll be just the basic motor block, no attachment parts, such as alternator, water pump, wires, harness, etc.
