80 dollar gas cap!
My OEM gas cap broke of recently. I replaced it with a 5 dollar cap from the local auto parts store and the light came on a day later with a emissions code. I replaced that 5 dollar cap with a 10 dollar cap from another parts store and cleared the code. That lasted 2 day, and another emissions code came back on.
So I had to go to the dealer and drop 80 dollars for a Jaguar cap.
If your cap breaks its probably a good idea to just go straight to he dealer, as other caps will give you codes.

Ah, the joys of a Jag!
Stick with the forum...a lot of members have already tracked down better pricing on a lot of parts so post what you're looking for and someone may have a source less costly.
Cabin filter from Jag-$60, someone in the forum had the source for $20 or so. Don't recall what it was since I'd already spent the $60.
I guess most everything comes thru Coventry England which likely jacks the price.
Thermo seems quite knowledgable about the X-type and I think I read it correctly--the engine (3.0) is basically a Lincoln engine and much is available from Ford/Lincoln dealers at a more reasonable cost.

Check back on some of the threads. Thermo, who is pretty well informed about the X Type, he has a wealth of info about it.
I know for a fact, having taken what seems like half the a/c duct apart (clearing out a mouse nest) that there are parts with the Ford logo on them as well as Ford part numbers. Makes sense since Ford owned Jaguar during the time the X was produced.
Couldn't say you could get 90% of the Jag parts at your local Ford or Lincoln dealer but it would seem likely that Ford would manufacture parts for the Jag.

Engine is Duratec, my 86 XJS had GM transmission and idle speed motor, V8 motors from 98 and up are Ford too. I can do research about transmission, do you want me to?
Duratec engine was used first time in 95 Ford Contour, later variable cam timing was used.

I guess my question is how do you define if something is "Ford" or not. I guess one definition you could say it is 100% Ford as the company was owned by Ford at the time and therefore by default, every part is Ford. On the other hand, you can also say that none of it is Ford as you don't find a Ford logo on the car and simply you have parts that were obtained and then modified to make the car. From my looking around, it would appear that the front end suspension is very similar to the Ford Mondeo AWD with a rear suspension from a Volvo S40. Sure, the motor at its heart is a Ford Duratec engine, but it has also gotten some working over that is not seen in any other Ford brand vehicle except the X-Type.
The only true quantifiable thing that you can say is "Ford" is the structural portion of the body. That supposedly is very closely related to the Ford Mondeo (aka, Ford Fusion). But, even that has been modified some by addition of more beefy structural supports to make the body more stiff.
So, how much Ford is it? You can justify any number you want with how you define what is and is not Ford.

Oh, and the Aston V12 is basically two duratec V6s. I can go on for days about the duratec V6, I love this engine. Ever since I got an SVT contour many years ago. Trust me, the X type is MUCH better than my Contour was, and I loved that Contour.
