Big ABS Issues
Hello,
Im getting ready to sell my Jaguar X Type. The ABS light is on, and 2 times while driving my steering wheel has locked up and all lights came on dash, then the engine stopped simultaneously. It has happened to me both time during decceleration/braking. It starts up just fine after with no weird engine noises or sounds. My ABS light has been on ever since my mechanic replaced my front driver side wheel bearing. Please help if you know what it could be.
Thanks, Andrew

What you describe seems to be 2 separate problems. The steering wheel locking up/loss of engine/lights sounds to me like you have a main power cable (ie, the big red cable coming off of the battery) that is damaged and is making an intermittent connection to ground. This would take your whole electrical system and drop it to a very low voltage, causing all the symptoms that you are seeing. This will be one of the major wires. You won't get this with a single say 18 guage wire grounding. We are looking at one of the 8 gauge wires grounding.
As for the ABS issue, I would get the codes read and that should give you a code to base things off of. But, based on what you describe, sounds like either the shop installed the bearing backwards (yes, there is an inside and outside that that bearing) or they damaged the sensor when putting things back together.
