Rusty: Try the following to isolate your A/C problem:

1) Ensure the coolant reservoir is full - behind the battery, over the front, left-hand tire.

2) With the engine cold, e.g., before leaving home in the morning, turn the A/C on and set the passenger compartment temperature control to LOW. If cold air blows, not ambient air, but cold air, then your A/C is OK. But if it blows only ambient air, then check your A/C system, e.g., for low Freon, bad compressor clutch, etc.

3) With the engine warmed up to normal operating temperature and the A/C turned on, set the passenger compartment temperature control to LOW, then to HI, then back to LOW, while checking the temperature of the air. If hot air blows consistently, even with the temperature control set to LOW, then check the servo motors and air dampers under dash and behind the radio that direct flow either thru the heater core (when set to HI), or bypassing the heater core (when set to LOW). Our X-Types sometimes suffer from air dampers stuck either open or closed. You may have an air damper that's stuck and directs air thru the heater core all the time, even when the temperature control is set to LOW and you want air to bypass the heater core.

In addition to directing air either thru or bypassing around the heater core, there are other servo motors and air dampers which direct air flow to the windshield, your face or your feet, and they recycle cabin air or bring in fresh air. One of these may be stuck in a position that prevents air from blowing at the windscreen even when set to demist mode.

These threads may help you diagnose and fix stuck air damper(s):
