Alloys/rim

Hi,

Can i please have some help.

I am not a car genius as you will be able to tell from my question.

I have a X Type 2.5 2001 - I want to replace the alloys. I believe that my alloys are 16" (6.5Jx16 ET52.5) (from a Google search) but most of the alloy sets on Ebay are 17" or 18".

If i replace the tyre aswel as the alloy/rim can i fit 17/18" alloys/rims?

Thanks in advance,

Lcgi 04-04-2015 03:13 AM

Hi Follow Me,
Yes, you match the Tyres to the Rims so for 17" Rims you fit 17" Tyres.... and 18" Tyres for 18" Rims etc. you will note the corresponding change to depth of side wall to maintain the correct outer Dia - then the speedo and all things related to actual road speed remain accurate.

ugotmale 04-07-2015 02:26 AM

Lcgi is correct. You can go 17" or 18". I'm not sure what 6.5Jx16 ET52.5 translates to here in the states, but I have 225/45-R17 tires on 17" wheels. The 225 is the width and 45 is the height. If I go to 18" wheels I'll need to go down to 225/40-R18 in order to keep the speedo on point.

Question

I'd like to go from my stock 17" alloys to these:Size:*18x8

Bolt Pattern:*5x4.75"

Offset:*+21mm

Hub Bore:*73.1mm

Backspacing:*5.25"

will they fit without any modification?

Posted other places, but it always good to do it again when people are talking about wheels.

Any of the wheels from the cars listed below will fit an X-Type (although the ones larger than 18" may rub.

No, you are looking for 5x4.25 in SAE or 5x108 in Metric. Nothing less than a +38 mm offset but, even that will be pushing it. You couldn't run +38 if you're lower than stock without hacking and/or rolling the fenders. Best to stick around 42-45mm and you will be golden.

If I did it again, I'd go with +35-38mm on a 18x8 wheel, and run a 245/35 on it.

I am stepping up to 245/35 when I get my wheels back from powdercoat but, my wheels are a 40mm... I'm not one for stretch and the 225 on an 8" wheel does poke the wheel out ever so slightly. 225 would be perfect on a 7.5" wheel, I think.

I like the low, wide beefy tire stance. Plus, I push my car hard and the extra contact patch helps :)

Hey X-TypeMentality, can you elaborate on the Offset situation? I've not really understood exactly how Offset is a factor...............or at least how to determine which range is the best. Is +35-38mm on the front or back or what exactly?

mjtemple 04-08-2015 02:27 AM

It's all about how much wheel goes back from the hub into the wheel arch and how much goes out from the hub. Same size wheels with different offsets could look and perform so differently. One could stand out proud from the wheel arch exposing the tyre and if on the front when you turn could catch the bumper or the wing/fender itself . Another could sit right back inside the wheel arch leaving the arch looking empty as if it has a space saver wheel on and this might catch on the suspension components or on the front, the inner wheel arch lining when turning. The attached picture should help.

Just taking 2 of the above images and lining them up so the hub is in the same place shows how the offset changes where the wheels sits on the vehicle.

Here's your choice of genuine X-type Wheels. Tyre sizes are shown in the Jaguar handbook and also on the sticker on the side of the dash with the tyre pressures on.

http://www.mjtemple.webspace.virginm...typealloys.jpg

Be wary of S-type wheels as their setup may not fit the X type. There are Proteus wheels for the X-type and for the S-type which are different widths and offset and those for an S rub on the X.

In the UK the 5 stud Ford wheels from Mondeo and Focus fit as do most modern Volvo wheels (but check the offsets) and double check the PCD is 5x108.

There's a good fitment list here.
Alloy wheel fitment guide and pcd's, the full list.

I see. Good diagram. So the +/- is an important thing and not quite as cut and dry as say converting 45/40/35 sidewall based on the rim size. It's a matter of too many negative MM will cause inner rubbing on suspension and too much positive will likely rip off your bumper when you turn.

mjtemple 04-08-2015 04:51 AM

Yes, lots to consider. Going back to the original post from 'followme' he has 16 inch diameter / 6.5 inch wide wheels at the moment, if he wanted to go to 18 inch wheels with an 8 inch width he is adding 3/4 inch either side on the same offset, change the offset either way by 3/4 inch (19mm) then he has the full 1.5 inch either sticking out or sitting at the back closer to the linings/suspension. That's without any of the tyre protruding over the edge of the rim. You can then take it a bit further in the profile of the tyre, if you fit 45 profile tyres instead of 40, they will be a bit taller and if the wheels are offset outwards will be more likely to catch.

Thanks for doing the work, mjtemple! :) haha

Hi Please can anyone tell me the offset for an x type 2.0d sport with 18" abaco alloy wheels.

Regards

mjtemple 04-08-2015 02:15 PM

The Abaco like the other X-type 18" wheels are 18 x 7.5J - Offset ET52.5 - Part number C2S48676, with a standard fit 225/40/18 tyre
