Anyone know of a decent oil filter wrench for my 2006?
After 2 changes on our 2006, I am wondering if anyone else has the problem of getting a wrench to back the oil filter off. I've got the regular metal band with an offset handle that hits the exhaust pipe and can't grip the end of the filter too well. Then I tried the "socket" type that fits over the end and snapped it right in two when I wrenched on it. That's the other thing,do all of you who do your own oil changes have filters as tight as mine? I'm 6'4", 215 lbs and can barely budge this sucker off. Any advice would be appreciated.

Yeah I know what you mean..my original one was a buggerbear to get off...But all I used was a standard band wrench, taking short turns at a time..But once you get it off, be sure to prefill the new filter and oil the gasket before you install it..I usually tighten as far as I can by hand, then give it a 1/4 turn more with the band wrench.

FOr non-Fram and K&N filters you should be able to use a cup filter tool from Ampro (available at Advance Auto, etc.Mine has these numbers in it 74/76 and 14. Works like a charm.

You should justget a import carfilter wrench that goes on the end of a ratchet. You can get one at autozone or advance auto parts really cheap andit fits alot of filter sizes. They work really good, It makes taking off the filter a piece of cake.

I use as strap wench that I bought years ago at a NAPA store. It's made out of a square piece of steel tubing with a heavy canvas loop mounted to it. You just stick a 1/2 drive ratchet wrench in the end of the tube and wind it up tight around the body of the oil filter. I've never found a filter that this thing wouldn't take off.
