Anyone notice your mileage!
When I first got my vehicle, (3.0 X) I noticed that when I fueled up my mileage to empty would be 313. But lately when I fuel up, my mileage till empty reads around 325. Is it just not accurate or does it depend on the fuel...Im using premium 93 octane, but not always from the same station ie. exxon, shell, sunoco
Any ideas? Or am I just crazy... |

But yea, i've noticed that myself. One day mine said 397, then some days it says 350. You never know. I think it's linkedto the fuel gauge, because if I park on a hill, and the gas in the tank shifts, so does that number. |

Probably nothing to do with this particular question, yet still related. I remember on Top Gear when JC was doin the run in the A8 from London to Edinburgh and back to London on one tank of gas, a distance of 800 miles. He filled up in the early am ( cold morning ) and he said that filling up then was most beneficial as you " got more for your money" as the molecules within the fuel were more densely packed:D Jim |
RE: Anyone notice your mileage!
Yeah, its better to fill up at night when its cooler

I always thought that it had something to do with the avg mpg you were getting and compared that to the total fuel in the car to find out what the total over the tank would be...that is why I thought it changes and usually starts lower when I am getting less avg. mpg...get what I'm saying???

RE: Anyone notice your mileage!
If you have a DIC saying "Fuel Used" feature you exactly know how much fuel left in the tank ! ;)

RE: Anyone notice your mileage!
Guys, get real. Traffic conditions change, the amount you drive changes, and if you punch it a little bit here and there, you'll get less mileage than if you drive like an old lady. As long as the difference isn't like an 80 mile difference and you basically drove the same, you shouldn't be worried. Also Andy, when you just got your jag, you probably punched it as often as possible, and now that you've played with the new baby, you probably take it easier. Therefore, more miles per tank.

Lol......good ole Biggie.....keepin it real as always:D He's got a point though.....10 - 15 miles here n there do account for so many variables that you have to take into account. I don't think it'd be even possible to make exactly the same journey twice unless it was under controlled conditions! Jim |
RE: Anyone notice your mileage!
A change in windspeed can influence gas mileage believe it or not.

RE: Anyone notice your mileage!
That makes sense lol
Well, you should not get a twist behind you though [&:][8D] |
RE: Anyone notice your mileage!
Tire pressure, number of passengers, air filter cleanliness, fuel filter cleanliness, coils, a/c on or off, windows up or down, even a waxed car gets slightly better mileage. Just to mention another few that I've thought up. LOL!

Nor forgetting of course if you have the boot full of stuff too, and or maybe ( roof rack[&:]) Jim |

RE: Anyone notice your mileage!
Speaking of unheard of things...remember when we were talking about the 4wd camaro? Well last Thursday I was driving in Hartland Michigan on m-59 and what do ya know? There was a 80's xj on a freaking 4wd chassis! If I wouldn't have been in a hurry I would have done a U-turn and taken some phone pics with it but I was already running an 1hour and 1/2 late! I wanted to whip it around and stalk the guy pulling the trailer with that thing in there for sure!
