Buzzing noise behind dash
When I turn the key to position 2 I hear a buzzing noise, it sounds like something electrical but on research people said it's a fan to do with climate control.
But I only hear it on position 2 ? When the car is running I don't hear it , when the car is off I don't hear it , it's only on in position 2 when I'm just about to start the car. Maybe it is the fan just acting different to everyone else's |

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...d-dash-214328/ https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...nsor-c-187552/ Mine is different as the people in them posts say they can hear it for up to 20 mins after the car is turned off , I don't hear it at all , when the car is running I don't hear it, it's just at position 2, nobody else has the exact problem as mine |

I really hope it's not that anyway , it could be tho because I do remember seeing a code to do with the fuel pump about 6 months ago but it never came back which was odd

Luke, what year is your Jag? Early models the fan in the links I posted is tied to the ignition. A few years later they changed it to tie in to the "auto off" relay. Also if you read my link, it states that mine made no noise before cleaning it (dirty) & after cleaning it, I can only hear it putting my ear actually on the vent because I'm lucky and mine is still very quiet during operation.
The fuel pump sound comes from behind you not from the dash. |

do you have a code reader? maybe try and check them again, either way fuel pump always runs for a second when you turn the ignition. changing it isn't too complicated if you're a diy. chrisfix has a video on it
its not the jobs that would bother me its the price of a fuel pump, arnt they around 500/ 600 plus for a new one? |

How do you have easy access to the fuel pump? Did they change it after 2006? Or just different on a diesel?
|
Diesels have no fuel tank pump, the injection pump has a built in lift pump.
Paul. |
Thx, Paul. Did some more research and not much out there which is a bit surprising with the amount of diesel X's in Europe. Man! The cost of a new pump makes the $600 petrol/gas look good, lol. Looks like a good buy is $1,500.

Paul. when i took out the back seat to clean everywhere i had a round black plastic/rubber (cant remember what it was) in the exact same place as where the fuel pump is on the petrol models https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...208ba18ca5.jpg |
I have a very thorough thread on replacing my fuel pump with contributions from other members including measurements, pictures, etc. The rubber bung in your picture is an access port to the electrical, not to any "pump" or as I understand it on diesel a "swirl pot". I believe it still has senders on each side of the saddle bag tank to control leveling fuel from side to side, fuel gauge level, low fuel light.
Note the same rubber bung in the same position on mine with initial marking to begin cutting access hole. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...24880c65ea.jpg |
Not good so :icon_teeth: I must check the workshop manual and hope I don't have to go cutting out the seat some day
