A/C Compressor oil amount???

Hi,

Just wondering if anybody knows the correct amount of A/C compressor oil I need to put in for my 2001 X-type 2.5 sedan?

Cheers!

Sphynx, if you get R-134a (like your car should be getting), then the oil is already in there and all you have to do is make sure that the can is shaken well before adding the freon. If you are getting straight R-134a to put in the car with no oil, then you will need to add in additional oil.

Hi Thermo,

Thanks for the reply...I just bought a brand new a/c compressor which has very little PAG oil in it. They also sent a bottle of this oil but I'm not sure on how much I should put in the compressor before installing it on the jag, prior to getting it gassed up with R-134a.

Cheers!

Hi, I actually just replaced my compressor. I put a total of 3oz of oil into the system after I replaced the compressor and the accumulator/drier. I would really recommend the blend of PAG oil and ice32 that comes pre-pressurized so you can just release it into your system.

Hi disguay,

Thanks for the reply, you only put 3oz in your new a/c compressor? I was browsing on the internet and someone was saying around 10oz should go in these compressors???

Cheers!

sphynx, a completely filled system will require 10 ounces of oil. But, if you are simply trying to get the car from your garage to the shop to get filled with freon, all you need is the 3 ounces.

Keep in mind that if you are replacing the compressor, you need to evacuate the freon system before adding in freon else you will find that the A/C system will not be very cool. Normal air inside of a freon system reduces its ability to compress the freon and make it do what it is should.

Hi Thermo,

I have purchased a brand new a/c compressor
kit from the U.S which contains everything including
PAG oil, orifice tube & all the o-rings.

I am planning of 1st draining all the oil that is currently
in the new compressor now to get an idea on how much
is already in there, then re-filling it with the correct amount
(hopefully)

Once I can get a definite idea on the amount of PAG oil I should put in there, then I can install it on the Jag along with the new accumulator, orifice tube & o-rings.

Once all the components are all installed, I can then
take the car to my local airconditioning workshop and
get them to fill it up with refrigerant.

Cheers!

To flush the compressor I would just empty the oil, put in new oil turn the compressor 12 times or so and flip upside down and rotate the inside compressor wheel 12 times or so until empty(not the wheel that the belt goes on. The inside wheel). Install the compressor. Do not turn on the AC and drive over to your mechanic and let him decide what to do. The compressor does compress if the ac is not on. If you are leery just unplug the wires to make sure it never turns on by accident some how.

Correction: The compressor does NOT compress if the ac is not on

My AC compressor is leaking the oil, can I buy re-seal kits or must I replay the compressor? Is it simple to swap in a new compressor and recharge the freon or it need to go through some complicate procedure?

Compressor is shot. Get a new one
