Catalytic Converter for 3.0

Hello,

I have a 2000 3.0 S-Type. My meter with the RPMs on it moves normally, but my Speedometer moves slowly when the car is accelerating. It seems as if the car is not getting all the power it should be getting when it accelerates. It is not an issue with the transmission because the gears switch fine, but it feels almost as if theres is some sort of resistance when I am trying to accelerate. My car gives this "i finally made" engine thrust when the car finally gets to the point its trying to get to. I have talked to 2 gentlemen who "know" cars and they both said it sound like my catalytic converter may be going bad. Would anyone be able to assist me in either determining if this is the case and if it is where can I purchase this part to have it replaced on my car.

Thanks

I think diagnosing a problem based on a slow moving speedometer is about as subjective an analysis as you can do. It is a very far cry from any sort of technical reasoning.
And to top it off catalytic converters are VERY expensive and a pain to replace. I strongly suggest to get some competent people to evaluate the car.

I have not heard of many (any?)cat problems. my car has 180k km on it now and cats are working fine.

Yeah but does that matter? Your x has also been the most problematic jag on this forum! Every car is independent to problems...a leak in exhaust can cause these symptoms as well as other things can do the same...does your exhaust smell any different?
