Check engine light with P1000 code
 

I have a 2002 X type, sport, 2.5, manual shift and the check engine light is on with the only code P1000. Recently had knock sensor code, followed by o2 sensor code. I replaced knock sensor and O2 sensor and cleared all codes. The car has been driving well since sensors replaced two days ago. However, the check engine light came on the second time I started the car. The only code showing is the P1000. I have driven the car the last two days and the P1000 code has not cleared. Need help because I need to get the car inspected. Thanks

I would hard reset the ecu by removing battery leads and touching them together for 10 secs, put them back on then drive and see what codes appear, I think your reader may be either missing codes or cant see pending codes?

Racer X, find a code reader that can read "Pending Codes". These are codes that are existing in the ECU during that drive and have not been committed to memory yet. This may give you a starting point.

I am not too worried about the P1000 code as that is simply saying that a code has come in before it completed a complete systems check. Like Joe said, a hard reset may be worth doing just to ensure the ECU is wiped clean of anything goofey. From there, see what you have.

I would NOT touch the battery cables together as this will erase all information, setting you back even worse off than you are now. The P1000 indicates that one or system monitors is not yet ready (for whatever reason). Touching the cable will delete the 'system ready' for all monitors and require that much more time and driving to get an all clear. The P1000 should eventually disappear and P1111 take it's place.

Get a better code reader to see why the CEL is on.

I do have an ABS issue that I haven't resolved yet. Probably wheel ring or steering wheel sensor. I want to get the car inspected first. I scanned it after driving for 1-2 hours and its not showing any stored codes only pending code is the P1000. However, it is showing that mis, fue and hrt have completed the drive cycle/system check, but ccm,cat, evap and o2s have not completed a drive cycle. Are you still recommending a hard reset of ECU? Thanks

Again, no. You will lose the mis, fue and hrt system data.

P1000 is because someone cleared the codes. It should change to P1111 if all is well.

Why was the original code clear done? What codes were there before that?

Sounding like the wheel speed sensor is not allowing you to reach the P1111 status. That is telling hte ECU that the speed input is not at 100%. That can cause the P1111 code not to come in. Fix the speed sensor issue and I bet your P1111 code returns after about 10 minutes of mixed city/highway driving.
