Default Click noise when pushing car backwards.

Gentlemen-

my car is making a click noise when pushing the car backwards. The car is of, wheels straight and on “P. It’s only when he car is pushed backwards. From the drivers side for sure

What could this be?

What do you mean when you say it is "on “P"?

is the sound coming from a wheel or front or rear ? Has any work been recently done to it? Does it do it when it is under power as well?

like the car is of and on park.

I came back from the tech and he said it’s normal. I noticed because I was detailing the car and I pushed it backwards and heard a “click” noise. The mechanic said he thinks it’s just the gear engaging?

You mean you are pushing AGAINST the car while it is in the Park position. You don't mean you are actually pushing the car and trying to move it while it is in park, correct? If so, I have no idea. You must really be putting some elbow grease to it. Can't say I ever experienced that with mine while I had it, alhough mine was a manual.

Now I'm intrigued. I'm going out to push (rock hard) on my automatic to see if there is a noise. I know putting some significant elbow grease into trying to get the swirl remover off didn't do it (that stuff works but man is it hard to remove).

removing swirls with my porter cable is precisely what I was doing!

Yes, I pushed the car car enough for it to bounce back. Not trying to move it, just going hard at it with detailing when I noticed. I hope it is normal

Nope, no noise. Rocked it HARD, too. Even moved it forward and backward (shutting off each time), just to see if there was a spot that I could get a sound.

What you are probably experiencing is that your parking pawl has some play in it and this is allowing the car to move slightly before the pawl hits its stop and prevents the car from rolling any further. This is normally caused by a few moves of the gear shift to PARK while the car is still moving slightly. While not necessarily a problem. A few more rolling engagements and you may find that you won't have PARK any more.

Uuummmmm.....a.......what???

A transmission parking pawl is a metal pawl (or pin) that engages a notched ring that is attached to the transmission's output shaft when the transmission shifter lever is placed in the "P" Park position.

Oh, okay.

You were pushing that hard with a rotary buffer? I don't know if that is such a good idea or at least not necessary I would think.

I did mine by hand and a little cordless random orbital buffer and thought I'd expire getting that swirl remover off, lol.
