X-Type 2.5 V6 2002

Over the past few weeks my battery has lost charge very fast, to the point where I would charge it during the evening, then remove the charger. When I would try to start the car in the morning it would be flat, ie: no actual usage. I've had the car for about 3 years and never replaced the battery myself, so I've no idea how long it has been in there.

Upon checking with a meter, I notice the output from the alternator was a consistent 15.5, which I believe is the upper limit of the regulator.

I've now replaced the battery, and the car is working great.

However, my question is this. I've checked the alternator with the new battery in place, and the output remains consistent at 15.5 but I believed this should drop to around 13.5 for a good fully charged battery.

Any advice would be greatfully appreciated.

 

suavegarve, let me look at my diagrams. From what you are describing, it is sounding like you have a failed signal going to the alternator. This may be a failed component inside the alternator or it may be an issue with the ECU. If you know how to use a multimeter, we can troubleshoot this and get things resolved.
