Cost for power steering pressure hose work?
A small shop estimated $1,000 on replacing the power steering pump hose.
I feel as if they're ripping me off just because it's a Jaguar. Granted, from experience, everything in this car compared to others I know can be 2-3 times more expensive to repair or replace. What do you think? And, think it would be better if I buy the part and do it myself? Because if it really is $1,000, then this car has literally turned into a money pit and I should've found out a long time ago. Even the $100s I might spend on this are showing... plus whatever problems will inevitably show in the process. Just wondering. This legit? |
I have a parts car I can get you the hoses off of. as for swapping them out, it will not cost you anywhere near that. Rough guess it will be about a 3 hour job. If your not handy I would say about 6 hours. I can give you a great price on the hoses. PM me and Let me know and we can go from there.
Good Luck, The Dr! |
The hose is around $100, it takes some calisthenics to route it, but $1000????
Rip-off! The suction hose, $40, ten-minute job. |
depending on which hose. probably the most difficult part of the job will be removing the front bumper. 30-40 mins max.
$1000 total rip off. Talk with Dr Dome. he has great parts at great prices. |
Well, the guy said it was the power steering pressure hose. Found a new OEM one for about $100. If it's like mentioned above, there's the chance of me being able to do it myself. The whole hoisting the engine and dropping the sub-frame thing for just the power steering hose seemed like a total try for extra hours of work out of my wallet.
You think I should replace any other hoses that should be replaced while replacing this if it's certainly this particular hose? I notice you mentioned the suction hose which is also pretty cheap. |
