Crank but no start
 

I have a 2006 3.0 with 230,000 miles. After filling tank the car would not start. Eventually it did and I got it home. Then it would not and has not started. About a week before my AC went to warm and I'm not sure if that's a separate issue. I pulled the battery since it was not cranking well and found it was bad and replaced it. I also replaced the starter. Now I have strong crank and it wont start. I keep reading about fuel pump so I pulled off the delivery hose at the injectors. Fuel is getting to the rail however my mechanic tells me it's not enough pressure. I'm attempting to avoid spending $500 to get a new pump if that will not get it started. I understand there may be a module in the pump that can be changed. I have not been able to smog the vehicle because the check engine light has been on. The codes don't lead to fuel line issues. P0171, P0174, P0101, P0171 P, P1000 P. Any thoughts?

Get an OBD reader (I bought the BAFX one), it will show you fuel rail pressure using an app like torque. It should be around 55 p.s.i. When my pump was going and finally went, it showed way less pressure.


P0171 coupled with a P0174 is nearly ALWAYS a vacuum leak on one of the "big 3". P1000 is a code telling you the required drive cycle(s) has not been completed. It will turn to P1111 when cycles completed. P0101 is your MAF and CAN throw the 171 & 174 code.

There are a few reports that a really dirty air filter will throw the MAF code. (Clean the MAF with ONLY MAF cleaner afterwards).

If you have good fuel pressure, probably not the pump. There may be one other thing to check also and that is the fuel pump relay (under rear seat). You can look up location online.

Also check your fuel filter (easy and cheap).

P0171 and P0174 can be result of low fuel pressure. Is there gas in fuel tank? Recently I towed some dead car, fuel tank was empty, gauge was showing 1/4 tank.
Fuel pumps are about $10 from ebay.
