so I was driving my friend home in my Automatic 2002 Jag X-Type, and instead of being on D, it was on 4 for whatever reason, so when I parked, I instinctively pushed it up, and it went to 3 and I noticed the light, and position of it so I immediately put it back to P but the Gearbox Fault and Cruise Not Availble kept flashing after turning off and on my car, is there anything I can do about this?

 

Zalami, I would first go out and start the car again. Is the light still flashing? It may be that you pushed through the gears too fast that the car saw this as a problem. By cycling the power, the computer will fix itself.

If the light is still flashing, then I would see if I could get the car to a shop to have the code(s) read. That will tell you a lot about what is going on. The CEL light may still be on, but solid. But, after a few days of driving, it should go off as the car will clear the light automatically. The big thing is making sure that the light is not flashing. A flashing CEL light means there is something wrong and it is possible that it is causing further damage to the vehicle.
