daylight running lights
 
please guide me how convert normal lighting system to daylight running system for 2006 X type. Does it requires any parts or just re-programming issue

It is just a programming change that the dealer can do for you.

Can I ask why you want daytime running lights? You could just use the Auto function on the switch. Obviously it's your choice, just curious.

The headlight bulbs burn out fast enough without having them on all the time.

I believe you need a different headlight switch too. The JTIS shows a different switch between non DRL and DRL equipped vehicles. It has to do with the ground feeding the low beam headlamp relay.

In Canada you need to have daylight running system.I am moving from US where it is not required by law.

My 2005 X-Type was imported from California, and had for importation into Canada, by law, a conversion to day-time running lights. When the ignition key is turned to the first position, the following come on: low beams, parking lights, side lamps, rear lamps. I have to switch the lights manually at night to get the dash lights working; the same procedure for the fog lights and anti-crash fog lights in the rear.

I have no idea as to whether the switch was replaced, or a program changed in some on-board computer. I have had the car for one year, and no bulbs have burnt out.

Ah, I thought perhaps that had something to do with it. I can see why you would want to eliminate the need to turn the switch manually all the time or risk a traffic citation.

I'm not sure you need a different switch. I imported my X from US to Canada and the Scottsdale dealer converted to DRL (or a version thereof) for free. I can't see that they would have ordered a special part and installed it and reprogrammed the car for free. So, I have a non DRL switch but dips, taillights and side markers all go on with ignition. Fog, rear fog, operate as they should.

Factory equipped DRL may have a different switch that only has the dip beams activate with ignition (not the tailights, side markers, etc) and would have the auto function operable as well as the proper dimming of Nav screen?

Who has a Canandian spec X-Type? How does the DRL work with the factory set up?

From the JTIS CD concerning DRL operation:

The daytime running lamps (DRL) system is designed to switch the low beam headlamps ON at full intensity and the tail lamps (including license plate lamps) at normal intensity under the following conditions:

-the ignition is in the RUN position
-the headlamp switch is in the OFF position

The side lights, tail lamps and the license plate lamps are illuminated normally by the master lighting switch.

The daytime running lamps are extinguished under the following conditions:

-the ignition in the OFF position
-the headlamp switch is set to the PARK position (all vehicles except Canada)
-the headlamp switch is set to the 'headlamp' position

The daytime running lamps interact with the instrument cluster.

I'm doing the opposite conversion, you will need a Canadian switch (I could provide mine) and I believe that is all that is needed. Jaguar's solution for DTRL was to make the car think it was night all the time so the Canadian Switch bypasses the light sensor. I'm changing mine to the US Autolamp Switch which requires some rewiring from the RC5 connector (behind the rearview mirror) to pins 13 and 14 on the switch, then I'll set up my fog lights to run in the day to meet the DTRL requirement. In my case I would like to save my internal lights and running lights from always being on, also I have Nav and it would be nice to have auto dim feature working.
