blackjack, first off, welcome to the forums. I think you will find a lot of useful information here. BUt, we do ask that you stop by the "New Member" section and do an introduction and tell us a little bit about yourself. As for your problem. I would first start with lifting both rear tires off of the ground at the same time and then seeing if you can spin the tires (one tire will spin one way, the other will spin the opposite way, just make sure the e-brake is off). If the wheels spin with little problem, your problem is located in the front half of the car most likely. At this point, you will need to do an inspection of the CV axles and see if they are in good shape. Based on what you are describing, a simple tug on the CV axle should tell you what you need to know. If you can pull and it feels solid, should be good. If you grab the axle and you get movement, it is bad. Next, since you are under the car, take a look at the transfer case and see if you see a large crack in the case. You may need to run your hand across the top half of the case. It is possible that the transfer case gave as you were pulling into your driveway (especially if you have a semi-steep driveway). After this, I would tell you that you need to take it to a shop to have a more professional inspection done. This will allow the techs to do a good look at the car and it will be at a place that will be able to do the work for you as what is left is beyond what most people are willing to handle.
