Well, after 27-months of sitting (moved occasionally to get items out of garage/shelf), I tool the x to the Jaguar dealer for a free service event they were hosting thinking they could potentially diagnose the ticking issue which cased me to park it.

The dealer is 15.5 miles away from my residence and the x made it there just fine. Jaguar stated the obvious that there is an engine knock at idle. They also recommended over $4,800 in additional parts/labor. Do people really pay $63.70 for 1 wiper blade? They wanted 2-hours worth of labor to determine the cause of the knock.

Approximately 1/2 way home the engine started to knock hard and squeal. I pulled over and had it towed home.

Granted, it could still be a pulley, tensioner and belt, but I think I have determined that if I haven't looked into it for the last 27-months, I probably won't in the next 27-months unless I have motivation. And, it most likely is a thrown bearing.

Anyway, I am looking at worst case scenario and found a couple engines I would we interested in purchasing after diagnosis from an independent shop. I am looking for recommendations on shops/individuals in the Chicagoland area to do the diagnosis and then install the new engine if needed. Any suggestions?

 

Don`t forget the Lincoln LS 3.0 also fits with a few parts from the Old engine
could save you a little when selecting a replacement

I remember reading about the LS engines. Briefly looking online, it looks as if the LS engines are selling for right around the same price as the x-type. I didn't call any local salvage yards yet though.
